Yesterday we had the briefing for my next 2 week tour, this time of Northern Slovenia and Croatia and the Italian Alps. My bike is a Suzuki DL 1000 which is the big brother of the 650 I was on for the previous tour. It has more power, more comfort, plus traction control and a slipper clutch. I am the only Aussie on this tour, the rest being from the USA and Canada and all being mounted on BMWs. It was a dull drizzly day when we ...

Drove from Vienna to Sopron in Hungry to have our 20th wedding anniversary lunch of a salad roll and takeaway coffee in our warm car. ... investment, only to have prices crash on them. They've decided to keep the property anyways as an escape from an over-crowding Britain.

Tuesday was a bit of a day off. We switched accommodations and moved right into the town of Ljutomer, excited to explore our new surroundings. We checked out the town square and found a pretty amazing stork nest on top of an old chimney...the biggest bird nest I've ever seen. How they were able to construct it is beyond me. In ...

... to open the tasting room, where we lingered for a few hours.

From there, we drove to the Silak B&B, in Ptuj's Old Town. Vladimir Silak has turned his grandmother’s home into a 16-room guesthouse. She had lost the home during the Communist years, but it has now been reclaimed and restored with comfortable room in the compact Old Town of Ptuj. Our room offered a small view of the Drava River that runs through town.

    The following morning, ...
