... however, the surrounding countryside is pretty - vineyards everywhere and distant snow covered mountains. We detoured to Desenzano on the banks of Lake Garda. Clearly a summer holiday town but a beautiful town situated on the shores of a huge lake. The water is crystal clear. We strolled along the front and then up the hill behind the buildings to see view. Sampled the gelato, had to be done! Strawberry and coffee, not together! Then came down the narrow cobbled street stopping off at a wine shop. The shop had bottles open that you could sample and man was so helpful. Bought a red and a sparkling red (Hope ...

... in the sun while looking at the lake.

I found a small roadside café on a hill overlooking the lake. The expresso was good! I sat there for a while soaking up the sun, but I knew I had a lot of driving to do if I was going to make it to Pisa before dark. Still without a GPS but I had written names of cities and road numbers on a piece of paper as a reference.
