the kindness of strangers

I woke up and thought, this is going to be one of the most pain in the neck days of my trip. I managed to get myself way into the north of Portugal, into Geres, the town next to the country´s only national park. I heard this was a great place to do some walks. So, here I was. The problem is while travelling is that while you are trying to enjoy where you are, you are always worried about the next step, for example, how am I going to get ...

... the hot sun, we had some tasty freshly-caught fish, some white wine, and we waited until all of the businesses closed. Once the coast (literally) was clear, the four of us crept up the old breakwall, where we had jumped into the sea earlier in the day, and slipped over the battlements of an old castle that looks out on the bay. Naturally, I was a bit scared of getting caught, but I figured that Joel, who ...

Santiago Part II

... overall sense of disapointment they felt arriving, as if their journey of self-discovery had ended. I´m not really sure where that feeling came from, because I thought reaching the cathedral was one of, if not the best, moments of the camino. I think that for those people whose camino is essentially a completely secular, vacationing endevor, reaching the end might be lame. But walking into the cathedral through the Portico of Gloria, touching the ancient ...

... room for 20 euro that wasn´t a complete dump, which was only an euro more than the pilgrim refugio across the street, complete with pilgrim stink lines emmanating from its windows. Being free from the distraction of other pilgrims rustling their plastic bags at 4:30 in the morning, Dan and I slept in until 9, and didn´t leave town until 10. A few k down the road we got the, frankly, retarded, idea to head all the way to Monte de Gozo, the staging ...

... went to sleep (you never sleep too soundly on a train/plane but I try anyhow). I woke up with a start a short while later because I thought my alarmhad gone off, but it was the lady's and she started packing up her stuff, so I thought, 'Yeah, she's leaving.' I'll figured I would wait a few minutes and when we stopped I would get my backpack again. It seemed like I was waiting for a while (I still had my mask on ...
