... In the center of town we turned right, which began our 36 km (22 mile) climb to the top of the mighty Col de Galibier.

The first portion of the climb involves ascending the Col-de-Telegraphe. This climb is 7.3 miles at an avg incline of 7.3%. This was a beautiful climb. At the foot of Glandon the event was halted for 15mins whilst they choppered away somebody injured for a crash. Chris told me later that he was stopped on Glandon as well for 45mins for another chopper evacuation.

Glandon was uncomfortable for me but at least the scenery was magnificent, rolling green hills, craggy rocks, waterfalls, little forrests plus the odd village or two....made it interesting.

... beautiful new bikes to drool over, especially the latest Time Izon

Chris and I lamented last years event over a pasta lunch in one of the restaurants at the top. Pretty good tagliatelle carbonara they served up to us.

After an afternoon's TV watching the TdF stage....and a few reds, I headed off for the 25km drive up the valley to my hotel at Valmeinier.

Got to get organised for tomorrow and off to bed ...

280 km Fuel €15.30 and €10 First part of the drive was through flatland Italy wasn't much to see but the second half was great, down the French rocky Alps into Monaco. One road was shut going over the Alps so had to take a detour. Walked down to the harbour in nice and saw some very expensive boats a had dinner at a French /American bar. £78.13 apogia ...
