We saw very few cars going in either direction - that should have given us some clues as to how far we were off the beaten track. The resorts in this area are quiet with the winter season having finished and the summer not yet in full swing.

Susa Italy was a very cute little town nestled in a valley halfway between Briancon and Turin. We did not spend much time there but since it was the destination of our carpool, we decided to check it out before continuing to Turin. We went to a local restaurant and ate some pizza, and wandered the streets a little bit before heading to the train station.

My only complaint is that much of the lower areas of the mountain had to artificial snow added to it which made it doable, but not by much. It was solid ice with a fluffy frosting on top that would move with you instead of giving traction. The first couple of falls hurt enough to make the idea of falling again frightful, and being scared to fall tends to result in falling more ...

... huge boom to shift the loose snow. So, until the all clear, only the lower slopes were open with the result that all the lifts were congested with long queues. Anyway, we got going once the tops slopes were open and Sophie, Anna and I headed to the highest peak in the 3 Valleys, Point du Bouchet, at 3230m. Some of the skiing was hard going as there were tricky moguls to navigate but it was worth the effort for the beautiful views ...
