... strip has more modern buildings, at least near the port where we were, than the 18th century architecture seen in Monte Carlo and parts of Nice. But just like Monaco and Nice there is a strong Italian influence as evident in the architecture and cuisine. On Saturday morning, we move on to Menton on the French Riviera. I'll be glad to get back to rich french food, I've had a bellyful of left over ravioli!!!

And unexpectedly Maxwell, a Malawian friend, by then working at WFP, now in Sudan for UNAMID, comes to see me in Hawassa with two friends from Addis Ababa. It is great to see him again and we have a lot of memories to talk about. We have never thought we would meet again in Ethiopia.
