... and influenced over time. It was like being surrounded by a thousand history books. I could not help imagining what the palaces would have looked like when kings and queens lived there. The gardens were SO beautiful!! There were many types of trees, plants, and flowers from all over the world. Some of the flowers I had never seen before. I took way too many pictures of flowers! I thought it was ...
Seville, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands sarahmrue... it. Ok - on to my evening....My friend Ruben (from Madrid) had given me a list of places to visit in Seville (and Cordoba for that matter) and so I headed out for tapas and then later to a great little bar that was part of the King Alfonso Hotel (the only 5 star hotel in Seville). The people were friendly and the scenery great. There's not much more to tell other than good food, good wine, nice company made for a very enjoyable evening. The ...
Seville, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands dineymarie... all of its recorded history, only one bull´s life has been spared (because the president at that time thought the bull deserved it). As well, a decade or so ago, a matador was killed by a bull (there have been few deaths of bullfighters, but there have been some). That bull was killed, as well as, his mother! The president didn´t want her propogating more killer bulls. Again, this is no bull. I asked if soccer is overtaking bullfighting in ...
Seville, Spain sueschubert... out of Orgiva seemed even steeper on the way up. We passed a tiny, old woman carrying a bucket of wet woolen clothes. She had walked up to a nearby creek to wash them. The nearest huts were still a long way away. When we looked back later she had stopped to collect firewood from beside the path. We also met a British man who was walking at a steady pace as he passed us and working on his sunburn at the same time. We found our lunch spot from the ...
Lanjaron, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jill-cam... dance show, which was really cool. After Seville we took a short flight to the north to visit Barcelona. When we got to Barcelona Alison's brother and his friend met us there. They came for their spring break at the UW. We saw a lot of cool architecture and an amazing park that has great views of the city. We spent a short time by the beach but it wasn't too hot in Barcelona, so we just walked along the boardwalk ...
Seville, Spain italiangirl26... Kurt, and Nick--I´m so excited for you all to come!! Hopefully by the time Mom and Dad come I´ll be over my culture shock stage. Also, tomorrow I´m going to sign up for two trips with Discover Sevilla--one to Lagos, Portugal in the middle of October (11-14) and another to Morocco in December (5-9). I´m really excited for those. I´ve also met multiple people that are staying after the program and traveling so I have options for that. I really ...
Sevilla, Spain spaulos... Beers, glasses of wine, and tapas cost less than 2 Euros each. One thing we noticed right away is that everyone here is dressed to kill. Nobody leaves the home unless they´re dressed up, even the kids. They must have the best-dressed kids in the world. We passed shop after shop after shop of clothes and shoes, bags, dresses, etc. We couldn´t believe the prices for even baby clothes. Many were over 100 Euros for a baby ...
Sevilla, Spain hippler... feelings were hurt when I told him I was mad at him. He tells me he just jokes, but Meredith and I both agree he's arrogant. I don't think he's a bad guy, though. So we all hung out and danced, Jesus told me doesn't think he has a chance and I told him he's probably right and to be careful not to get hurt. After awhile, I couldn't take any more of the lights or the music, so I caught a cab and went home on my own. I went to sleep and slept most of Saturday. My family had left for ...
Sevilla, Spain catedoyle... didn't realize until we had visited every floor. We wondered the 1st floor for like 20 minutes trying to figure out how to go downstairs but we couldn't come up with anything. We even went outside and wondered around the block looking for some hidden entrance. As we were taking one last lap around the bottom floor, I finally got up the guts to ask one of the workers how to get downstairs. Once she pointed us to the hidden escalator next to ...
Sevilla, Spain mingozingo... we were hoping that we would be able to go somewhere over the weekend. All of the airline tickets we found were ridiculously overpriced, so we decided that after dinner, we would walk to the bus station and see if there was anything more affordable. When we got to the bus station that is pretty close to our house, it was pretty much closed down. Only one window was open, and after looking around, we found out that there weren't really any international lines that ...
