        ... horrific ones too. There is an English theatre, it's closed at the moment but outside is a cupboard with novels in and on it a sign saying that they are free to take. They are all in English and make an effort to entice others to read and learn our language. Imagine a Polish theatre in London that did that. How would that go down.         ... walk around the main streets marvelling at these buildings still standing as they have been for centuries some of them back to 1200! One shop had been operating as a chemist since 1600!
        The restoration is painstaking and of course authentic and strictly controlled and everywhere there are bright flowers to add to the colour and charm

        ... there were hotels but there didn't seem to be a thriving tourist industry, or even a tourist industry of any kind. It seemed busy the way Abidjan was busy: lots of people, going about their daily business, just trying to survive. Some buildings were beautiful, and some were very run-down.
