Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... dry goods, there is a stall selling a large array of stylish, colorful Italian kitchen ware. Hermetic sealing caps in three sizes were literally 'flying off the table'; a set flew right into my hands.

Dinner at Terzo Crottol was perfect; a salad caprese followed by beefsteak Florentine (I'd forgotten how good it was), and a chocolate bomb for Bob (with a spoon for me-he who orders the dessert gets the ...

... let us in for a look. Great that Italians don’t follow the rules – most of the time it’s okay. However not many of them use indicators!!! So we had a walk in this splendiferous garden. The photos will show that it is on the water – totally indulgent. It seems that many people stay there. We suspect that the rich and famous are more likely to come to these smaller places as Como is busy, but we haven’t been there yet. I particularly liked the cascading fountain ...
