Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Mirachoro Praia Lagos
Good Value

Stayed at the Mirachoro Praia hotel 4jun06 for 7 nites. Nice hotel good location. Up quite a steep hill so not suitable for those with walking difficulties. Although the hotel does have wheelchair access to all areas. Buffet breakfast inc fruits 'tinned', yoghurts, breads fresh meats and cooked breakfast. Quite impressive at the start of the holiday but sick of the same selection by the end of the week! Rooms fairly specious and all rooms have balconies. I had a pool view higher up, which means you get the evening sun. Very nice to sit out with a drink. The other rooms at the side and the back don't have good views as they look over a grassy verge/wasteland.
The resort itself was pleasant, nice clean beach, with a varied selection of bars and restaurants. Kids seemed to be welcome in all places.
I think up to a week would be long enough here as after a week we ran out of things to do!
All in all I would recommend this, good value for money, good location!

I stayed at this hotel from the 19th May 06 for 1 week. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Carvoeiro. It is in an excellent location situated at the top of the main road within a 5 minute walk from an excellent choice of bars and restaurants and the main square and beach. The hotel was clean, modern, quiet and in general a peaceful place to stay. Breakfast was what you would expect in Europe, a good selection of cereals, fruit, cold meats, salad etc. with hot bacon (streaky), sausage(frankfurter), fried and boiled eggs. Staff were professional and polite. The hotel has an excellent pool, chest height water all over, plenty of loungers although the umbrellas were quite old and taped to stop them blowing about in the constant windy conditions. My only reservations would be minor, a couple of days our room was not cleaned until after 5.00pm and the advertised pool bar was not open during our stay, they were in the process of getting it ready for opening from June onwards. But overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone and Carvoeiro as well if you are looking for a chill out, relaxing holiday.
Reallly well positioned hotel

after having to check out of the Colina Village because of no heated pool I was lucky to secure a suite here for 130 euros per night for six nights. This was basically 3 interconnecting rooms with 3 huge balconies. More than enough room for a family of 4. this also gave 2 mini fridges and 2 televisions. We took a mini DVD player with us which plugged into the scart socket, which was handy. The hotel has a small indoor heated pool, which is a bit drab, but does the job at colder times. Big hot tub and a sauna as well. I didn't use the hot tub, as I am a bit fussy about chlorine balances in them.
In April the main (excellent) pool is a bit too cold to swim in, although some managed it. The best thing about this hotel though is its location at the top of the 'strip'. Pleasant walk down to the beach, and in reach of a huge number of great restaurants.(try Casa Algarvia - best value) the breakfast in the hotel is 'OK', but does the job. It can be a bit of a scrum esp for the coffee machine.
Whilst we were there, they painted the lobby in gaudy red and blue. Don't worry too much about it!
Also, bar prices are very reasonable. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in carvoeiro.
Great Hotel

Just returned having spent 10 days in the Hotel. Excellent rooms, nice and spacey, lovely beds and clean and tidy, maid service every day including Sundays. Hotel is very new and reflects this in the decoration. Elegant.... Hotel staff all speak excellent English and were pleasant and friendly at all times. The hotel pool is spacious, clean, same depth all over- around chest height.... dont do feet and inches sorry, there were plenty of beds, chairs, and umbrellas, and nobody bothers putting out their beach towels to claim their beds each morning.... this could be because the hotel when we were there was mainly full of German holiday makers. The pool bar was open every day and well stocked, though the poor girl behind the bar had to walk into the hotel every time somebody ordered a hot drink, she was certainly kept fit. The restaurant is clean and the hotplates, always well stocked. We were bed and breakfast, but you could also have your main evening meal in the hotel for a cost of 14.90 euros. But we found the position of the hotel was well placed for various restuarants, all of good calibre. The hotel does not cater for children at all which was exactly why we booked this hotel in the first place so was an excellent choice for us personally. There was a lovely bar and 1 pool table. All rooms had tv, sky news only though, air conditioning, and mini fridge. Didnt have tea and coffee making facilities, which was the only complaint we could find. Very well placed in the resort, at the top of the hill, so you need to be a bit active, certainly kept me fit over the 10 days. Overall excellent hotel, well priced and I would certainly return in the future.

If you are looking for a hotel that is not to far from lots of bars and restaurants and is very clean, friendly and relaxing and caters mainly for adults this is the ideal hotel. The hotel is only a few years old and is extremly clean and quiet, the pool area is quite large with a swim up bar and pool side bar, i would recommend B&B and eating out at one of the restaurants nearby in the evening. We will defiantly return to this hotel in the next couple of years as it is ideal for a short relaxing holiday

This was my firat holiday abroad, went with my fiance. Stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. Unfortunately took unwell near the beginning of my holiday and through the rest of my stay there. I have to say the all the staff were very helpful & caring. I managed to get my meals in my room while I was ill, as I was too unwell to even get downstairs to restaurant. All staff spoke english which was good, so if you did have any problems they were able to understand you clearly and help you with your problem. The hotel rooms were beautiful, very clean and spacious. Definately would go and stay here again when I'm feeling a lot better. Would recommend it too anyone!
Excellent Hotel

We stayed in the Mirachoro in May for 10 nights and I was very impressed generally.
The hotel is only two or three years old and there's a freshness about the place. The room was a good size with electronic aircon, a balcony and a decent sized en-suite bathroom.
We stayed as part of a package deal with Globespan including flights but I'd say value for money was excellent. We had opted for bed and breakfast and I'd say that's the way to go. Breakfast was a help yourself buffet with plenty English style fry-up food and also cheese and hams and breads etc if you prefer. The hotel doesn't seem to particularly encourage evening diners. There's no full menu, just a set starter (no choice) and a choice of two or three main dishes each night. Given that it's at the top end of "Restaurant Hill" in Carvoeiro and there's about 40 restaurants within half a mile of all tastes I don't see why anyone would take an all inclusive deal. If you want to eat in the hotel you still can for 18 euros a night.
The swimming pool is excellent although when we were there, which was not the height of season granted, the pool bar was never open so that little advertised feature was a bit of a red herring. I don't know if it maybe is open in the height of summer though? The pool is the same depth all the way round too so there's no shallow end for kids but it's not especially deep anyway and there is a separate paddling pool as well.
The hotel also has its own generator as there were a couple of power cuts in Carvoeiro whilst we were there but the hotel quickly kicked in with its own back up whilst much of the rest of the street remained in darkness.
As a hotel, apart from one of the biggest swimming pools you'll get at a hotel, there's nothing else there really. There's a pool table in the bar and a tv in your room (only Sky News and CNN for English language though). Perhaps not the best place to take kids? I don't have any so can't really say.
Staff were friendly enough and helpful when asked for anything. All seemed to speak English very well. In fact, most of the Algarve seem to speak English very well.
Minor quibbles? There's a lot of ants about in the bar area, particularly on all the plants in the room. Doesn't bother me but it may put some off.
Excellent value for money

Stayed here for 2 nights B&B and it only cost £33 for two people! Good position just 2 minutes walk from restaurants and village. Nice pool area. Nicely decorated rooms with A/C. We did have a couple of problems (toilet didnt flush and TV didnt work) but the reception staff were very helpful and sorted them out immediately. Breakfast was good, the usual buffet. All in all would def stay here again.
My review

When my family and I stayed at the hotel, we enjoyed the stay but were not impressed. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are spacious and homey. The staff where quite miserable and acted like they didn't really care, there also didn't seem to be enough staff. The food was so boring. It was the same food every single night! The puddings were the same everyday as well. ( fruit and marble cake ). I would recommend this hotel to couples who want to have a quiet, enjoyable week. But for families who have any children would find this hotel so boring. The only way for the children to amuse themselves is a Pool Table, which didnt keep my daughter happy.
Great hotel apart from food

We stayed at the Mirachoro Praia Hotel during July 2004. The hotel was lovely and quiet and had clean, modern rooms and public area. The staff are friendly, although there were only a few staff who seemed very bored since there weren't many guests. The pool was a good size (though a bit chilly)and there was plenty of seating around. The hotel was in an excellent location, about 10 minutes walk uphill from the main beach and there were restaurants and shops even closer. We were on a half board basis. Whilst the buffet breakfast was ok (but same every day), the evening meals were awful. There was a choice, but the starter and deserts did not vary all week. The food was like eating from a canteen, not a four star restaurant and we found ourselves eating out more than we expected. There were some lovely, inexpensive restaurants nearby. We would recomend this hotel to couples of any age looking for a quiet get away but only on a B&B or room only basis (evening meal is 14 Euros per person and you can get a lovely meal out for less). If you have children, like to be entertained or want loads of extra facilities it is worth avoiding. That said, since the hotel was quiet, modern and clean and the resort is lovely, we had a really good week.
