We have been to the elegant 'city' of Lucca today, a romantic Renaissance town surrounded by ancient walls and former home of Giacomo Puccini of Nessun Dorma fame. ... of Portovenne. A UNESCO WORLD Heritage site. We wandered through the back cobblestone streets checking out the shops, restaurants and buildings dating back to the 1100s including St Peter and San Lorenzo churches. We had dinner of local pasta w/pesto [which this area is noted for] coupled with a delightful local lambrusco [40E]. Then back to the hotel – crashed. Jan and Roxanne took Ny quil- worked like a charm for Jan, not as well for ...

Thurs 30th Today we caught the train to Riomaggiore - and then back up to Monterosso to start a walk Monterosso - Vernazza- Corniglia Riomaggiore is a lovely little village much like ours at Manarola - pretty small with a big focus on fishing Monterossa was a lot bigger and more touristy so it was good to start there and glad we are staying at a smaller place The walk was spectacular - the weather cleared for us but still cool ...
