... 5 hour hike to Vernazza. Just beautiful vistas and very rugged, challenging terrain. In Vernazza, we had lunch (trenetta pasta with pesto and pansotti spinach stuffed ravioli with pesto) and a liter of the local white wine right next to the end of the hiking trail. We were serenaded during lunch. We enjoyed the town and took the train back to Manarola for the ...

    Doug is awesome. Duh.

After about thirty minutes walking around town, we began our hike. Now, normally, there is a trail that goes along the coast all the way between the five towns called Via dell'Amore ("The Walk of Love). But due to a landslide a couple years ago, and the poor economy not allowing for repairs, the short, direct trail between Corniglia ...

... 8211; we were both breathing quite heavily and our legs were a little more than shaky - when we saw a local elderly couple doing the most technically challenging area carrying buckets (the man was even smoking a cigar).

We managed to walk the high path from Manarola to Corniglia in about 2.5 hours. We enjoyed our first cappuccino of the day in Corniglia (see below) before setting off ...
