Destination 405

km197'555

Not entirely shure, if I spend my last day in a foreign country, I head towards north. A stopover at Novi Ligure provides me finally the opportunity to send a notification to all family and friends about my remaining itinerary before return back home. The date has been fixed to the 29.
The ride up to Vercelly in the low lands was not that exciting like the sighting of the mountain of Mont Blanc in the far. Since my ...
Liddes, Valais, Switzerland pajas... used my final day of my eurrail pass for this trip only to find that the trip from Visp station to the Zermatt was not valid despite being told by two train operators that it was. I also couldn't get through to the girl at the station that my eurrail pass allows me discounts for the train but she kept telling me, 'no, no, you can't use anymore days it's full'. Today wasn't the first time I have been stuffed around by the Swiss. It's hard to believe that Einstein was educated here.

Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tonkinI decided to change hostels because I really didn't like this one. I am not fond of the international hostels. They're like hospitals, although the buffet breakfast was nice and I liked their cat. I was woken up by screaming, unruly kids. Some parents aren't parents. I was happy to change. The sun had also come out and so I snuck on the train from Montreux Tilletet to Veyvey which is only 5 minutes away. The place is much nicer and has free food and a kitchen. I actually got an entire 6 ...
Montreux, Vaud, Switzerland tonkin... back to the campsite after that. In the sun it started to get pretty warm.. well not freezing anymore so had loads of my layers off. Just walking down the road by myself and the only noise was the faint running of water in the stream and the cow bells... I could not have been happier.
I met Kathleen back at the van after and enjoyed the last 20mins of sun.. then it got COLD. She went to the internet and I had a snooze.. wrapped up in a ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland emmasadventures... there were a few people who though it was pretty funny that I went all the way to Switzerland to hike in the Alps and have never done the same in the Rockies. Looks like I have some hiking to do when I get back home.

The pictures will do a much better job of telling the story than my words.

Also, this is the first place in my entire trip where I did not meet a single Australian. Whats up?
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tidolu14... Exceeds all expectation.
28th- hiked Schilthorn, 2nd highest peak in the Alps, 2nd only to Jungfrau, highest point in europe. took us 7 hours to do a 4 1/2 hour hike. on the way up, we passed this older hiker on his way down. He seemed annoyed that he had to warn us, "it takes 2 hours up from here. You have less than 3 hours to catch the gondola down. Hurry." What was physically ...
Gimmelwald, Swiss Alps, Switzerland waywarding... it seemed so quiet that I wondered what we would fill our days with, however now we have run out of time with so many more things I wish we could do before we leave. There are so many hiking trails on all sides of the Valley, mountain bikes to hire, more cable cars to ride. You really could spend more than a week here in summer and have plenty to do. Yet it feels so relaxing at the same time, as the air is so fresh and the scenery is so beautiful. We will ...
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland wells2008... and Nikki were late coming in due to her lost luggage so we spend all afternoon marveling at our luck in the weather and cycling around up and down the valley. We also had time to go to Trindlebasch which is the waterfall inside the mountain. You take a lift up inside the mountain and wander around inside and outside to view the waterfall from about 10 different places. It was pretty cool, definitely something you couldn't do in NZ. Andrew and Nikki ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland cooknzWe woke up in our little guest house in Lauterbrunnen to the beautiful view of the waterfall outside of our room, and the sound of church bells tolling from the chapel across the stream. The sun was just rising over the mountains, and everything was as beautiful as a postcard, right down to the wooden chalets with painted shutters and window boxes full of bright geraniums. We checked the weather, which although sunny ...
