... br> Unlike many of the other main cableways this one to Mannlichen is made up
of small 4 seater cars instead of one large capacity car. The journey to the top
of the mountain takes about 30 minutes and with 4 of us in the car its a great
laugh en route.
Finally we reach the summit at 2239m. The journey up Mannlichen is more of
a gentle climb but once up at the summit its virtually a straight cliff edge

... beautiful scenery all over again. We stopped in at the Oberland Hotel again for dinner before making our way back to our room.

When we woke the following day it was raining and it was miserable! We planned to use this day to walk around Lauterbrunnen so were a bit annoyed that we couldn’t explore the town as we intended to. The Church bells started up fifteen minutes before midnight, stopped for the clock to chime twelve and then rang on for another quarter of an hour. All of this was with a backdrop of fireworks all around us. The rockets echoed around the valley and the brighter flashes illuminated the valley as all the villages celebrated the new year. From Lauterbrunnen we could see the fireworks all around and above us in Wengen.
Happy 2014 to you ...

... under an awning and watched the rain come down. The weather changes quickly in the mountains. We were amazed at the large number of Asian tourists that we met, most traveling as part of tours but some who seemed to be on their own. We were impressed by how well the local people maintain both their public and private property. The local church
is located near our hotel; its bell chimes the hour both day and night. It was a good day.

The Rothorn and Schynige Platte

... just have to wait for the next one if you miss it! This was great for me because I hate it when trains, buses, ferries are late and I also don’t like waiting around! From Brienz we crossed the street to the station heading up to the Rothorn. On the tracks there was a green engine steaming away and two red cars with neat windows that lifted up in front of it. We hopped in the front car with hopes of being able to get some pictures of the engine as the ...
