... Joux Valley was suggested, about an hour’s drive up in the Jura Mountains to the north and west of Trélex.
(The Jura Mountains are the place wh**e geologists det**mined th**e had been a previously unknown historical p**iod which they named Jurassic (supposed to be from about 200,000,000 to about 140,000,000 years ago if they got that right); the p**iod paleontologist feel was "the age of the reptiles." So in a sense, any public land in ...
... pepper and other ingredients in just the right proportions to achieve the sought-after taste. Melt (fondre in French, which is where the word fondue originates) it all together in a pot over a small flame to keep it hot. Then stick a small piece of thick bread on a long fork and swirl it around in the pot. When the bread is pulled out it is covered in cheese. This can be popped in the mouth right away, taking care not to get the fork in one’s mouth. It ...
Trélex, Vaud, Switzerland joelmeekerAt 10:00 the Air France flight took off for Geneva. By this time the sky was clear and we flew right over Paris. I would see the Arc de Triomphe, and the Dome of the Invalides very clearly. I could even pick out the street corner where one of my usual hotels is located. It was cloudy and clear in patches on the way to Switzerland. The Jura Mountains to the west of Geneva were clear, and lightly powdered with snow, as we descended. Lake Geneva (as we call it in English – the ...

There were a couple of business men in suits and ties pacing around. Here to get a refill on their Viagra prescription prior to going home??? Then a girl came in limping, with her friends helping her to hop in. Her ankle was swollen so she had probably injured it in some sort of sport event. They had her sit down and ...

Jour 1
J'adore Lausanne. Nous sommes all ...
Turned up in Lausanne Swizerland after some confusion and missplanning. We intended to travel from Venice to Monaco then Barcelona then Paris but money was running out fast, so what better idea than to come to Swizerland and Lake Geneva one of the most pricey countries in Europe, so as a result we could only spend one day here on our low student budget. When we arrived at the station we changed some mone and entered the Tourist ...

... the curved tracks winding through the mountain valleys between Basel and Lausanne. It is engineered with mechanisms that banks each train car through turns (I am just amazed to find a Wikipedia entry on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICN_%28SBB -CFF-FFS%29). It can go 125mph (200km/h)...pretty good in this terrain! We arrived in Lausanne before lunchtime. It sits at one end of the Lavaux wine ...
Chexbres, Switzerland rheingold... cheese. But really it is not possible - even with a cheese selection that is 10 meters long in every grocery store. For the first two weeks I was here I had bread and cheese for two meals a day. Not a good plan. Now I find myself wishing for rice. Yes I know I think I lost it. But besides having to ration my intake of bread and cheese life is good. Not really surprising that life isn't difficult in Europe, if the worst of my problems ...
Gland, Switzerland lcridd... learn a lot when we are in class, but we also have time to experience things and have fun. It really is an awesome experience. Anyways, after the WTO we got the afternoon to wander around Geneva by ourselves. Me, Heather, Yo Yo Lifer (Johannes), and James walked around the city taking pictures and just enjoying the beautiful surroundings. We went to see the church where Calvin preached (rather underwhelming) and then grabbed some lunch. It really is a beautiful place although it doesn't ...
