Passing through. Managed to find enough euro cents (88 cents to be exact) in our pockets to use in Lidl for dinner.
This constant changing currency is difficult. Polish Zloty, Slovakia has Euro, Hungarian Forint, Romanian Lei, Bulgarian Lev etc etc...

We arrived in Krakow early Wednesday morning and were met by Adam our guide and researcher for our Poland excursion. We then took a quick tour of the main square of Krakow and had lunch at a traditional Polish restaurant. Hopped in the car and drove ~4 hours to Muszyna in the Southern part of Poland right on the Slovakian border. We were exhausted and crashed after a quick dinner!

In Krakow we got offered tours to Auschwitz. We were there 17 years ago and one visit to this center of human destruction is enough for a lifetime to realize how bestial people can be and to be thankful for the peaceful era in Europe we currently experience. I think though that each European citizen should pay a visit.

We entered Slovakia in the south and in one and a half day, we were at the border with Poland. That's hardly possible in the Netherlands (also because it doesn't border on Poland :=)

But on this short trip and in the following 4 days, we have enjoyed being here a lot. The landscapes are beautiful, from hilly to mountainous and the landscapes are filled with small villages with churches and sometimes manors. There are small cities (Kosice, the largest city after Bratislava, ...

A few more of the churches had been relocated to open-air museums. I wasn't thrilled about going to one, but just north of Bardejov a open-air museum in the spa town of Bardejovske Kupele had two wooden churches. The town of Bardejovske Kupele itself was fairly a tacky spa resort.
