On 29th August 1954 a bronze statue of Christ (The Statue of Christ of the Abyss ) was lowered 15 m into seabed to bless the waters, protect the fisherman memory of Ducililo Marcante . Unfortunately we were not taken anywhere near him and so had to do with a copy of the statue that is in the little church . Once we had had the tour thru the Abby ...

The Grand Hotel Savoia is a great hotel. We’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the great hotels of the world - the Taj in Bombay, the Cecil in Alexandria and the Winter Palace in Luxor and this hotel is right up there with them. Undaunted we initiated Plan B, a trip to the largest Aquarium ...

... for lunch was a challenge and we settled for Foccacia (a local lunch favourite) and pizza. The Foccacia has a variety of toppings to choose from. I had onion on one and fresh tomatoes on the other...delicious. Then back to the hotel for our afternoon rest. We have fallen into a lovely rhythm. We have breakfast around 9, go out and walk from 10 - 3 (including lunch), rest and chores until 7:30 then dinner at 8. We had ...

... week in a few years but Erwin didn't think it was not quite enough action for him. We thought it may take a while for him push his walking frame over the large pebbles on the beach!! The boat then dropped us off at picture perfect Portofino. The playground for the rich and famous. Amazing, expensive boats are moored in a very small sheltered harbour. A walk to Castle Brown high up on a hill gives you a magic ...
