Gruss
Ralf

Ohrid, Macedonia schwate... meine erste seit Wellington:-)

Ohrid, Macedonia schwateI opt to chill out for the day and stay in Ohrid. Pretty, peaceful, good hostel, friendly people … The girls, recovering Celine and I explore the town. The highlights are the tiny, Orthodox churches from a half century ago. Lots of personality, interesting frescoes with a backdrop of the mountains and lake. The views as we ...
Ohrid, Ohrid, Macedonia will.traveller... Jersey -- right next to Craig's home town.

We got hungry, and stopped at Grna Na Sirok Sokak right on the main square. We were feeling adventurous and ordered zuccini and snails for starters. Pretty tasty! For the main dish, we ate a traditional Macedonian dish that was a meat and vegetable extravaganza -- think paella without the rice. It was recommended by the waiter and we were not disappointed. Of course we washed ...
Bitola, Macedonia balkans2009The sun was shining just like the weather forecast said it would. First time in at least a week. Did a whirlwind tour of Bitola (took more time in transit than actual sightseeing) and came back to Ohrid so I could have a relaxing sunny day near the lake. I also trekked back to Sveti Jovan Kaneo for the third day in a row. Finally, I had some sun casting over one of ...
Bitola, Macedonia lilyc... in general!). So it was an enjoyable day overall. I got a bit cramped for time at the end. When departing Ohrid, I purchased a roundtrip ticket, which meant that my return trip had to be with the same bus company (there are two). The only appropriate return bus was at 4pm, which left me with basically no time to visit Heraclea Lyncestis. I did, however, go ahead and make the trek out there just to have a peek. Most of the site was actually visible from outside the ...
Bitola, Macedonia xeriusMy entries have been getting too long. And, dear reader, I think that they are beleaguring to the both of us. Although I had many fascinating adventures in the lakeside city of Ohrid, I recount but a few. Ohrid is a fascinating city. Does anyone out there remember Tintin and the Lake of Sharks? This is the city in it! In the story, there is a landlocked lake with two backwards police regimes on the lookout for each other (like Albania and Yugoslavia in the Cold War era). Lake ...
Ohrid, Macedonia fatduck... wall painted white, and the quaint little monastery building that we saw from below is the size of a barn. We reached it minutes before sunset. We met a fellow named Goran who showed us a room as as simple as it gets. There were six iron cots with blankets, and a ceiling light overhead. Apart from that, there were four little windows and the walls were white plaster. Two other people were preparing a meal in the kitchen and they invited us to have some of it. Afterwards ...
Prilep, Macedonia fatduck... people but they were on package holidays. God only knows why !!!!! But they were no help I cried myself to sleep that night. It was like a death in the family I awoke and went everywhere again. Hoping that my LP would call out, or even stagger towards me after a big night out. But it did happen. I started to accept that I would never see my best friend again. So we walked up to the fort, to take a look at it and to console myself. Actually, the fort was really enjoyable. We were ...
