      Inside the cavernous interior it was delightfully cool, the sun having come out with a vengence. Rich frescoes and sculptures, marble columns, striped on the upper level. Impressive but not intimidating. These are the offerings of Renaissance artists from throughout Europe who were commissioned to restore the interior of the Duomo to its past glory after a devestating fire in 1595. ...

      ... and it was Carla, kiss kiss hug hug and again lots of arm waving and speedy Italian. Hopefully they actually did enjoy our company, and aren't saying they are glad to see the back of us ! ! ! We will miss it, it is such a romantic, enjoyable, restful way to appreciate a part of the journey and we will miss that little house. Kiss kiss hug hug to Casa Firese.

      ... that the Pisarians have it right ........ The area in and around the Pisa Tower, cathedral, baptistry and oh so much more, with the beautiful manicured lawns, the evidence of the area being fortified in time gone past, with magnificently preserved turrets, walls and gates.. Simply true and natural beauty. We feel so grateful for all the Italians have shown us so far ! Jan thinks that she could live in Italy....the culture, the easy pace, ...

We parked up in a town very close to the first town, and then got ourselves a train pass which covered us for the whole day with transport back and forth between the villages.
