Singapore, Singapore sabaustralisim... but it did look a little bit like men in skirts gliding around the room. Another trait of the long bar, apart from its wonderfully wooden-brown bar and green lights, was the fact they served monkey nuts on the tables, and we could simply discard the waste on the floor. I was quite surprised the see the floor littered with the remnants of hundreds of monkey nuts and I thought it was quite unnecessary. Presumably in the time of British Imperialism some wallah would sweep up the mess ...
Changi, Singapore apoc100... were headed towards our departments.
Having more of an idea what we were in for we proceeded towards the Department of Medicine at the National University Hospital. The exterior of the hospital is quite ugly but inside it was a buzzing, clean place. We headed to the office where we met our supervisors and after our experience with rudeness, everyone was hospitable and lovely. My supervisor was friendly and accommodating. Although I had reservations as to what we would be ...
... a new bolg which is hopefully easier. It remain stinking hot here. We have swam alot in the condo pool, have had dinner at an asian restaurant well some did - Carly and I had trouble finding something. Dinner out is very costly here as everything is, accomodations and vehicles - almost $50,000 canadian for the smallest car - a Hundai which would propbably be very cheap at home. While at dinner we saw the harbour wear all the ships line up for port ...
Singapore, Singapore dgilpinI know I have been neglecting my blogging lately. The lab has been sucking most of my time and energy. The scary part? I'm not even done "learning" yet, I'm still running the trial part- once I know that my reaction will go, that's when I start my actual research project. So anyway, Sentosa island! I went with my lab mate on Sunday. One of the grad students from the lab was gracious enough to come with ...
Sentosa Island, Singapore catherine.cy.ng... how great it was. Everyone talks about how good the food in Singapore is, and let me tell you, it is that good. I was running out of time in Singapore as the sun was starting to get lower in the afternoon sky. Of course, the hike and our two hour lunch was more than worth it. I didn't want to leave. I had had the most fun time roaming the city by myself, meeting new people, going hiking, enjoying the food, and just feeling comfortable in the city. One last thing before I left: Ben had ...
Singapore, Singapore snclark8... the most southerly point on mainland Asia, nothing fancy, just a tree-house lodge! Sorry if my review of Sentosa gives it a bad impression, but it really isn't that fantastic. Okay it is good for young children but thats about it! The only thing it is missing (in Singapore standards) is a shopping mall, but it was nice to go the whole day without coming across one (this from a girl who has a hard time leaving shops). x
Sentosa Island, Singapore vwfamily... with a hearty smile of gratitude is quite a task, I can tell you. Have to say it's been a refreshing change not seeing many westerners around. This surprised me initially, and I figured it was just the luck of the draw - but having spent a good bit of time flitting from here to there on the MRT line and local bus routes it seems that Singapore isn't exactly overrun with Ang Mo. Not that it ...
Sentosa Island, Singapore scottwoz... the water was nice and warm as well. This is a pretty nice beach, although we were on the island on a weekday and I have heard that weekends are brutally crowded. After the beach we rinsed off in the nice shower facilities available and walked over the nearby Fort Siloso for a tour. This is a WWII fort and tells the tale of how Singapore was taken by the Japanese and occupied for several terrible years before the end of the war and arrival of Allied forces. The fort is ...
