Miyazaki, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan wideboythin... most spectacular setting on the top of a mountain. Could see the distant volcano (which was thankfully quiet). Even had deer come visit while we were in the outside onsen. Made a successful (thanks to the GPS) trip to our hotel in Miyazaki. Got on the JR train yesterday and toured south to Obi City where they have a city of old wooden houses and a Samari castle. Interesting. Today we head north. Just a quick entry for now.
Miyazaki, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan marybc... each of you who are rich enough to be reading these computer blogs. The only reason I have this laptop which I'm typing on is because I was born into a family who is rich enough to feed me, educate me and love me so I could grow up to the person I am. If I didn't have a healthy diet while growing up or didn't have a safe place to sleep every night I couldn't have grown into the healthy person I am today. We need to ...
Miyazaki, Japan spudbraham... and got as south as the Cape Toi before having to turn around and head back up to Miyazaki. In Matt and Gretchen style, we got ourselves in over our heads on our way to Beppo which is along the east coast of Kyushu. The hills were bigger then we though and it was raining (which, aside from being a bit unpleasant, slows you down.) Just as we were finishing up our last break, hoping we could squeeze two hours of ...
Miyazaki, Japan spudbraham... a good place to camp. One aiming point is one of the the frequent road side rest stops which are marked on the map. The nice ones are big, have a nice set of rest rooms, and a big grassy picnic area etc. so would make a good camping site. Today at 5:25 and we arrive at the rest stop, still 6km from the camping area (also on the map), and it's getting dark fast, but this rest stop is small, nowhere to camp, so we press on. At least the rest stop big local area map also ...
Miyazaki, Japan imapilot... I toured 2 automotive parts manufacturers based here in Miyazaki. One factory was very typical of what I would expect to see in America. However, at the second factory, I walk up to the front of the building to see my name posted at the entrace. The president, GM and senior engineer talked to me and showed me around the factory ...
Miyazaki, Japan christopherorenUnreal is only word I can use to describe the last 2 days. Just a hint: 3 days in Japan = 3 nights of Karaoke! We have been treated like rock stars since the day we arrived. 5-10 Japanese Rotarians are constantly shuffling us around to various sightseeing destinations. In 2 days I have learned how to perform Zen Buddhist Meditation Ceremony complete with punishment, visited ancient burial grounds, toured a Plasma TV factory, walked ...
Miyazaki, Japan christopherorenOk! I made it to Japan, however at the airport I was quite surprised to see 20 rotarians with a HUGE banner welcoming us to Japan. I was not in any shape to meet anyone, but I didn't have a choice. We were quickly shuffled off to our Hotel where the local Rotarians had dinner waiting on us. We met our host families that we will stay with starting Monday Night. However, only a few people could speak English and my host could not. When Japanese people ...
Miyazaki, Japan christopherorenI completed the long flight to Japan. My plan to sleep during the flight worked well. I slept for nearly 8 hours during the flight. I am on the flight to Miyazaki from Nigoya. I am hungry, tired and I have travel grime. I can't wait to get to the hotel and settle in. It's 5:20 pm in Japan and 4:20 am in the Eastern time zone. I've been traveling since 7:30 am yesterday. By the time I arrive in Miyazaki, I will have been traveling for ...
