The fireworks were gorgeous, though owing to our position and the prevailing winds, the smoke sometimes obscured our view and we were unfortunately treated to regular showers of ashes. By the time it was over, we all had black smudges on our faces, in our hair, and on our clothes. And I was wearing a mainly light-coloured yukata!
We have arrived in Narita, Tokyo. Flight from Paris was uneventful except for the time of day it was. We left at 2.30pm (an hour late), being the middle of the day not a lot of sleep was had, it was a 12 hour flight arriving in Narita just before 9am their local time. Now I'm at Narita airport, eating ridiculously overpriced noodles and checking my email. I still have another 6-hour flight ahead of me before I get to Hanoi. It ain't over yet, folks.
