We took advantage of a break in a thunder shower to explore ruins of the Priamar fortress which is built on a hill near the harbor. In 1528 Savona was conquered by Genoa; the city was ransacked and the beautiful cathedral on the site was demolished. In its place the Genoese built an immense fortress. On our first trip to Italy in our 1979 VW dub autocamper (with westfalia roof) we stopped here and I spent most of my time in the water with a mask, snorkel and fins. I have so many good memories of this place and I had wanted to see if I could find "Anna's" as the camp site was called back in the 1980's.

... food, and a rest. I came past Mare Hotel in Savona. They showed me the room which was really nice, and parking in the basemant and as I went back to the reception they even gave me a discount.
Check in done and a quick shower later I went for a walk into the center of Savona to see if I could find a shop and some food. Most places were shut in the afternoon and wouldn't open until 6 pm, but in the end I found a little café on the beach that did sandwiches. I went ...
