Puerto Escondido, Pacific Coast, Mexico, 52-958-204-22
The seven hour bus ride to Puerto Escondido was an uncomfortable, humid affair. The winding mountain road passed through steamy rainforests and army checkpoints, where our bags were searched before we could continue. We arrived during a torrential downpour – not ideal weather for a beach resort – yet it was still so humid that the rain felt warm against the skin. After a difficult night's sleep I awoke not exactly refreshed, but eager to check out the tropical beach, allegedly one...
Puerto Escondido, Pacific Coast, Mexico duncantuckerWe travelled from San Salvador all the way throught ot Mexico on Wednesday, which was an incredibly long journey. We left at 6.15am and had to change buses in Guatemala City and then we got stuck in traffic due to an accident, so we were late arriving in Tapachula. We left there at 10.45pm and then arrived in Puerto Escondido at around 10am on Thursday morning. We travelled through Guatemala, which was incredibly beautiful and definitely on our list of places to come back to. There were sever...
Puerto Escondido, Pacific Coast, Mexico edandaliWe spent four days in the town of Puerto Escondido to get some beach time and to see what all the fuss was about. There were several great beaches all next to each other, including Zictela Beach, which is one of the best and most well known surf beaches in the world (apparently... good surf is wasted on us). We had one night in a hostal which could easily be classed as a good hotel, it made us think that we were "flashpacking". The hostal was full of kiwis, the first we had met in Mexico, and...
Puerto Escondido, Pacific Coast, Mexico factG - Puerto Escondido is absolutely beautiful. It is so chillled out here its amazing. Such a contrast from Mexico City, its a pretty small beach town really with a lot of surfers and bars and tacky beach shops but its such a nice atmosphere. An aussie guy in our hostel says the surf here is in the top 5 he{s ever surfed and he has been travelling with a bag and his surf boards for about a year, through north and south america and europe. The waves are scarily powerful though and the majority ...
Puerto Escondido, Mexico guyandcalumWell, I think I found the worst road in Mexico. It was the one that our overnight bus was on last night from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido. The night started off fine...the bus was half empty, and all seemed well. Then around 11 I was woken up by some family moving into the seats behind me....the woman managed to hit me on the head with something, then laughed when I woke up with a start. Grrr. Then her child would not shut up! She just kept talking and yelping. Oh....and they all seemed to...
Puerto Escondido, Mexico jessica_cdnAt 5 a.m., Chris and I left Scott and the lovely little city of Miahuatlan, and headed west to the Pacific Coast to visit Puerto Escondido for the Carnaval weekend. We planned on trying to find our guitar playing, cottage neighbour Dale who we knew would be wintering in P.E., a favourite beach hangout of his. Also Scott said that he would join us on Saturday for a couple of days. Even though we had taken the shuttle bus to Miahuatlan from the coast, the trip back down to the coast was a rough...
Puerto Escondido, Pacific Coast, Mexico ladyandtrampArrived from an overnight bus in puerto escondido and was immediately struck by its beauty. From our hostel the Mayflower, (highly recommended as great place with eccentric owners and friendly atmosphere you're sure to make a millions new bestfriends), my first views of puerto escondido were of the sunrise, what away to start the day! We quickly discovered the beach and went for a walk down to playa zicatela (the surf beach). I hate to describe all of our days together but they mostly consist...
Puerto escondido, Mexico lexigerberOn Saturday, after Kathryn's hot cakes (pancakes in English! - making the most of the kitchen) we walked east to a beach apparently more suitable for beginner surfers - mmm waves still humongous! We sat and watched for a while with vast expanse of beach all to ourselves, a complete contrast to Acapulco where we struggled to find a spare metre to park ourselves. We then taxied to a 3rd beach which was meant to be even less rough and better for swimming - so we took a quick dip. However this wa...

Puerto Escondido, Mexico muzz_travellingA long bus ride from Oaxaca City put down in the second class bus station. Then a quick 22peso taxi got me to the hostel early in the morning. So early. I put on my trunks, headed to the beach for a "beach shower" in the ocean.
Puerto Escondido, Pacific Coast, Mexico skot... to around 35 here. You should've seen the faces on the people in the hostel when we arrived with our backpacks on and sweat pouring from us! The hostel is mainly a hang out for surfers and as such is very basic but at only 6 euros a night we couldn't complain. The town here is pretty much designed with the beach bum in mind and there's not much happening apart from that. The beach is nice enough, not exactly clean but the surfers seem to love it, so I suppose that's ...
