Historical Traveler Reviews Tabaiba Princess Maspalomas

    A Great Getaway!

I stayed at the Maspalomas / Tabaiba Princess hotel that is curently in the Thomson 'platinum' brochure. This is the third time i have stayed here and it just gets better every time. I cannot fault the hotel in any shape or form!

This is a very large hotel that is in 2halfs, one being for the english, and the other for the europeans. Both are more or less exacly the same, it is quite dawnting at first but you soon get used to it. One way to tell is that the english side has red lamps in the lobby and the european side has blue lamps.

The rooms here have plenty of space, a large wardrobe, realitively comfy beds, tv with some english channels, and a decent sized balcony. If you have booked a twin room then you will be more or less guarenteed a pool view, but family rooms face the outside of the hotel, not as good as a pool view but still not bad.

Food in this hotel is the best i have ever tasted, and the food quality is superb. The restaurant is very large with plenty of room, and you get shown to a table by the head waiter. on entering the restaurant, to the left is the show cooking buffett table, and in the middle is the main buffet counter.

Now the pool area is again a very large space with plenty of sunbeds and 4 snack bars around the two main pools, so you never have far to walk to get a drink or a bite to eat! The sauna and massage rooms are in the middle of the two main pools which you have to cross a bridge to get to.

Entertainment wise - there is always some show or performance on every night in the main entertainment lounge. A must see is the drifters tribute which actualy has one original drifter member! In the piano bar next to the reception there is always someone on the piano and is a very relaxed and chilled atmosphere. it does get quite bizy in bothe of the inside bars, so give the outside one near the mini golf a try! With its candle lit tables, comfy sofas, and relaxing background music.

There are plenty of things to do in the day time as there is a number of large pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, kids playground, mini golf course, giant chess board, and an archery range. If non of these tickle your fancy then a a 20 minuet walk down to the beach is a must! The sand dunes at maspalomas are amazing its like stepping into the middle of the desert!

Now another MUST for people of all ages is the Sioux City excursion! I have to admit the thought of cowboys and horses is not my idea of fun. But after being perstered by my little sister and boyfriend i finaly gave in. And im very glad i did, it was the highlight of the holiday! it is quite expensive but worth every penny, free dinks and food all night and an out of this world show that has loads of stunts in it. i wont give the plot away but take my word for it and go see it! Youll regret it if you dont!!!

Well i think ive covered everything but if anyone has any questions then id be glad to help.

    Thanks for reading!!

    What a place to relax

This was our first visit to Gran Canaria and therefore we were unsure on what area to visit. We were lucky and struck gold. Maspalomas suited us quiet but in easy reach of the more noisy Playa De Ingles (but not for us). Pleasant walks along the dried up canal to the sea where you will find enough restaurants and shops to keep you busy for the week.

Now the Hotel we went half board which again suited our needs. There are plenty of bars serving snacks and drinks around the many pools. A little on the expensive side but if you shop outside the prices are more in line with the UK. The Hotel is two joined together one being all inclusive the other half board but you are free to move between them both (not including the all inclusive). The grand entrance sets the tone for the hotel marble floors with tropical plants as decor give you a great welcome feel. The staffs are very helpful and will go out of their way to cater for your needs. The rooms were clean and spacious and air-conditioned adding to your comfort for your stay.

The meals are conducted with military precision with short queue forming you into groups to be led through the dining area to be seated with tables cleaned and re-set every time. The selection of food was enormous catering for all nationalities. Be prepared for some odd dishes such as garlic mushrooms for breakfast. If you like coffee take your own the machine dispensed stuff at the hotel is awful. But a good selection well cooked and presented.

The entertainment at night is not to everyone's taste with some very low value entertainers. That said the choice is yours you can retreat to the piano bar for a restful drink and a chat or jump in a taxi and head for the bright lights.

We had a great week and will return to the area again.

2nd Time - Just As Good.

We stayed at this resort in 2004 and again in May 2006. Both times we had a fantastic time. The hotel is clean and well organised and staff are helpful. There was plenty for my 4 year old to do during the day and he loved the mini disco. Though it did get a little repetative for us adults.

The evening entertainment can only be described as "interesting" at best and "dodgy" at worst.

The young lady tries hard and she was trying hard two years ago, but still not really improved.

The food is good, again gets repetative on a two week break, but throughly enjoyed the buffet.

After two visits we won't be returning purely because twice is enough for us. Though we would highly recommend it.

If you don't like walking though, stay away as it is one mile to the sea front. But a taxi only costs, around £2.

Going? This is the review to read!

Firstly please don't be concerned when reading some of the negative comments here , as (in my opinion) they serve only to mislead.

We've stayed at numerous platinum hotels, and this one is indeed a fine example.

"An immaculate four star hotel in an ideal setting" would describe the experience.

    Book it and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!
