The story of the bridge is that the devil granted it to an old farmer who agreed to sacrifice the soul of the first person who crossed it. The farmer tricked the devil by throwing a stone across the bridge and sacrificing his dog who went to fetch it. The devil supposedly swore to make sure he was never deceived again. ...
