... overpriced and we negotiated a decent rate at a 2 star that lived up to its name. It was simple and in need of a reno but clean, dry and safe; it even had wifi from the reception so we were good.

EXPECTED:
Rain.

UNEXPECTED:
THAT much rain and being turned away from a flooding disaster. We've been in proximity to a few of Mother Nature's rants this year...

This was quite stressful, as we expected to have only 10 minutes to get off one train, retrieve our luggage and board the train to Rome. Thankfully, the train to La Spezia was on time, and our train to Rome was ...

... t stop all the way to La Spezia. We found the aire, although it was more of a campervan storage site which allowed campervans to park overnight for a donation. It was right on the dockside so the view left a lot to be desired but as we were only staying one night and it was raining anyway it didn't really matter!
