A week in Italy: Cinque Terre!!

... again. Being on the coast I went with the special that day, penne in tomato sauce with mussels! and a coke. For only 8 euro I had a huge plate of pasta with easily over a dozen mussels. The prices were nothing like Paris!

After lunch the rain started to let up. Feeling a bit more adventurous we took the train to Monterosso. There was a nice stretch along the shore and along the cliffs to walk from the train station to the center of the city. The girls and I rummaged ...

Ahhh the blue, the blue blue ocean that calms me..

It's Saturday morning and I'm hitting up this internet cafe on my way through the begining of my day long hike through Cinque Terre.

I left San Fillippo yesterday with happy memories and sad steps. I really did enjoy so much about my stay there that I truly didn't want to leave, but alas my faithful readers needed something more excited to read so I have graciously decided to continue on this path of a new ...

A Boat Ride to Cinque Terre

... from the area.

Originally, the only way to get to and from these little villages was by small fishing boats or an ancient foot path, which follows the coast connecting all five. Now, the path is well worn, and between a few of the towns, a paved path wide enough for locals tiny three-wheeled trucks to make some deliveries. There's now a boat that picks up and ...
Tuscan Riviera Portovenere
Had seen it on Getaway and looked very pretty.. Found a hotel with sea views and have spent 2 nights here resting , climbing around local castles… eating sleeping and watching the boats go in and out… not much English here but we are not hungry or thirsty so all going well….
Tomorrow we are off to the South of France.. 3 nights planned in Nice.. Really looking forward to it but have loved Italy…

Cinque Terra, by Boat and Plane

... park and a UNESCO world heritage site. It's estimated that the terraces built into the hillsides to support the community crops utilize walls that, if stretched out, would extend 12000 kilometers. Having been there, I believe them. The bright and distinct colorings on the buildings facing the ocean are there in part to help the fisherman find their way back to the right place. The 'stacked houses' building style was used ...

Settling in Italy................

Cinque Terre - beauty, jellyfish and shemales!

... so we agreed that if we were all too late to meet the group in town 5 at 6pm, we would wait for each other there until 6:30pm.
We got off at town four and this time managed to find the right path to the view and it was well worth it. Italy really does have such a beautiful coastline.
We thought there was another train just after 6pm so we hurried back to the train station. By now it was 6pm so we were going to miss the group, but we still wanted to find Sarah and Tommy.<br ...

Week 1 in La Spezia

... t really encourage me to move. I have decided that permanently wet feet are unpleasant and that I shall make an effort to truly appreciate the cold dryness of snow. The house is quite high up...I have yet to walk up the hill (I am not terribly distraught about that though), as the family usually comes to pick me up. There is a massive garden and the food here is always good! Food: We knew that this would come to food didn't we!? At there ...

Day 27, To La Spezia: When Good Cheese Goes Bad

... a day here though. And being winter there were not as many people selling things about. However, Bernie is actually quite partial to dodgy souveniers. After this the bus headed up to the Cinque Terre which was a place Bernie and Jess were both really looking forward to. Bernie had a great view of the squat toilets and bins of Monterosso. Jess learned how to buy anti-nausea medication in Italian. We both missed the group photo. But we did get to spend ...

more on cinque terre

I stayed in this town called Levento just 1 town away from Cinque Terre. It was suppose to be a bigger town than one of the 5 villages of Cinque Terre but when I arrived, everything was closed. We were told that since the people in the town had worked for many months from spring till autumn, they would take a break in winter by taking a few weeks off and we had to visit the place during that time (what perfect timing). Did I mention that the trains run less frequently too ...
