I didn't know what to expect as we had never met Soraja before and I had only met her sister a handful of times back in England with my mum. We knocked on the door and she welcomed us with open arms and was very happy to see us. We sat and talked with her about India, Sri Lanka where she was born and about her husband ...

... of things that I remember hearing about as a child. Mum remembered seeing her nanna cook hoppers (pronounced oppers) - she used to sit on an low stool over an open fire in the courtyard and an hopper chatty used to be on the fire (that's the pan that they cook the hoppers in). Pepperwater is another thing I remember as a child - it's like a watery gravy which you pour over curry and rice - Andrea will remember pepperwater... hope I'm not making ...
