... ever used food stamps?" "do you or someone you know have an eating disorder?" "have you ever been sexually harassed?" "is your named often mispronounced?" can you say the pledge of allegiance with pride?" "do you have to go to school when your faith group is celebrating a holiday?" It was a good experience and I was surprised by a lot of peoples responses. Afterwards we got into small groups and then ...
Yokohama, Japan claudivIt's going to be a short entry today. Basically because we didn't do anything worth writing about. Basically today was a rest day. We boarded thee Shinkansen to Yokohama, which is a decent 2hr 45min trip. I'm glad we have the rail passes, as each one of these Shinkansen trips would be costing us about $150 - $220 per ticket, and more if we chose to reserve seats. Departed at Yokohama, and walked the 3 blocks west to the hotel. We ...
Yokohama, Kanto, Japan apat... ball. I miss being that excited about a ball. So next I got some of the little kids together and did a game called "Ordering food." Basically I gave each kid a tray and then I line up a whole bunch of pictures of food on the table. Then, I get the kids to come up to me and I order food by saying " I want a apple, or I want a hamburger, etc." I did it one object at a time though. They then go to the table and get the foods I asked for ...
Yokohama, Japan japanmc... look around a ridiculously small (very disappointing) Topshop we went to a cafe and warmed up with a hot chocolate. We left Harajuku and went back to Shibuya to check out what it looked like in the dark. Well all I can say is pretty cool, just how I imagined Tokyo to be! All bright lights and neon signs. Very awesome. That night we FINALLY ended up eating in a japanese restaurant back in Asakusa where we sampled a few delights like tuna sushi and boiled pork pancake rolls ...
Tokyo, Japan smiffy... one hundred guests. A modest turnout. The first sight that struck me was the bands of women showing off babies. Clusters of guys were chatting, showing off their wives and babies, too. I thought, "Isn't Japan facing declining population? Is the government counting babies accurately?" Those kids were running around in the gym. Inside chairs had been placed in neat rows. Six rows were reserved for pupils graduating in ...
Yokohama, Japan ryotaThe one-year anniversary of my setting foot in Japan came and went without fanfare, as I was busy playing guide to my aunt, who spent two hot, sunny and sweat-drenched weeks in this city I now call home. I've been thinking quite a bit about heat recently, wondering if this is indeed the hottest place I've ever been. Vietnam was far from cold, sure, but I don't remember the heat being so constantly strong that the mere act of existing caused drops of sweat ...
Tokyo, Japan gadelle... First party may have been Karaoke I can't quite remember. That was an all night effort until the first train. Then there was the "goodbye party" in Shibuya. Again all you can drink for some stupid cheap price. That was the night that we had a good arguement with some horrid wee Japanese man on the train who decided that the foreigners were the only people talking on the train and decided to make an issue out of it. Needless to ...
Yokohama, Japan japanesewhisper... how big Tokyo actually is, as the high rise buildings went as far into the distance as the eye could see - and it was a perfect day for it. In the evening, I went to Shibuya for a few hours which is just a few stops on the Yamanote line down from Shinjuku. It was similar to Shinjuku in terms of the lights and the buzz about the place, but it seemed to cater more for the youth of Japan with more nightclubs, bars and love hotels around - it`s definitely a place that I want to see more of!
Tokyo, Japan rich... out in the country where things were much slower and much more relaxed. I spent last night on the ship and it was good to take a night as down time. September 16,2006 In our getting lost in the city we found free internet so I am writing this now because I board the ship for China. It has been eye opening in certain ways, and just plain fun in others. It is still fairly early in the morning so today's happenings will just have to live in my memory!!! XoXoX SPK 1 down - 9 to go
Kobe, Japan spkennedy808... weve had to do is about 350m, but from what I`ve seen there are bigger ones that that. Everything is automated here, absolutly everything. You can buy virtually everything you need to survive and your luxuries in a vending machine. Most of the coffee houses and restaurants also have ticket vending machines where you select your meal and then take it into the restaurant! its a bit weired! the sony building!!! what an experiece, u cant imagine it unless youve been in it ...
