my gosh Lagos

... we awoke around 8am) start, it was time to stock up on provisions from the Intermarche, the Portugues version of a large supermarket. We have noticed a wide variation in prices for eg bread which is very well baked,is cheaper than in the uk. the same goes for beer and wine also fruit and veg. not so items which are imported such as alpen (euro 5 a box pg tips euro 2.40 for 80. Anyhow having stocked up we headed to Praia Mos, a little too late to ...

... t the most inspiring town, and after two days its time to move on.The kiwis have a plan, they've got a hostel lined up, and a group of friends meeting them, so why not?

A two hour bus ride to Lagos was longer than expected, as we got off the bus we met up with Kirsten another traveler who was staying at the same hostel. Together we all walked to "The Rising Cock" hostel, the clever name suggesting that I perhaps was not its ...

Bull fighting

In Albufeira, we went to a Portugese bullfight, not the real deal as in they don't kill the bull, rather they stab them in the back with a bunch of arrows. I thought it was mean, especially the first bull because it was pretty much still a baby and looked scared instead of angry. Jon ...

... not "surfers" but we we’re much less scared of getting tossed by the big waves this time. We also came to the conclusion that it maybe wasn’t us that, but that it’s the size of the board that was hindering our performance....

http://picasaweb.google.com/Jonny.D .Lawrence/20091011Sagres?authkey=Gv1sRg CMmMtI7egbGKvAE&feat=directlink

We've checked off Portugal!

... views and excellent photo ops. The nice thing about this tour is there was more drinking than sight seeing. Next stop was the most amazing rooftop terrance/bar. Front row seats to the best view of Lisbon. With 2 pitchers of sangria, we found ourselves a little tipsy but it was definitely a moment for all of us. A very special moment.

Next was a stop at a traditional restaurant for cod fish dishes. This was followed by a free wine tasting at a local ...

We Love Lagos!!

... of the sites around town. Gaudi´s Sagrada Familia church was amazing and is still being built today. We also saw his park and many other things around the town. After Barcelona we went to Sevilla where we saw a Bullfight which was interesting to say the least. After the first bull the whole row in front of us left due to the gory ending, because they actually do kill the bull. The rest of the bulls were not so bad but Dani definitley shed a few tears after the first one ...

Lagos

... something you would buy at home for that cheap. Jack has tried a few ports, and reds, he was told to try one called Madeira which comes from an island of the same name. It is very similar to Port, but made differently. It is not aged like Port, but actually cooked to slowly carmalize the sugars in the wine and bring out the flavor. Jack really liked it. The shame is that many of the wines are only available locally. We won't be able to get them back home. Portugal has not ...

LAGOS and SAGRES

... traditional Portugal candy - chocolate, almond and fig - hated it, tasted like it was full of sand. Then we just headed back to the hotel. That evening we went back into Albuferia for dinner, our taxi driver was nice enough to show us where the hidden taxi stand was, so we didn't have to wait in line to get a taxi back at the end of the night. I will definitely go back to Portugal and do the west coast, less touristy, with the most amazing countryside.
