    Baska to Krk Town

A travel blog entry by jephcottjourney on Jul 07, 2015

On our last full day we decided to drive the full length of the island, which only took 40 minutes and see the town of Baska. The town is famous for a stone tablet found with some of the areas oldest known language. The area is also famous for FKK, which is a acronym used to describe their nudist beaches. This trend was actually started by Queen Elizabeth II uncle, King Edward VIII, who loved to bath in the ...

So we wanted to try out these healing mud baths we have been hearing so much about and to be honest I could you use some healing at this point in the trip. The beach has quite a tidal change and goes out about a ¼ mile. The sea was very shallow and allowed for easy swimming for children as you could walk forever and it only went up to your knees. The mud smelled a bit like decomposing sea organisms. There were tons of clams in the sea bed and little crabs. The mud was ...

The drive from Plitvice was interesting and very beautiful. We drove through the city of Otocac where a lot of the fighting occurred in the 90's. The town still has a lot of visible signs of sniper holes in the buildings and some shelling damage. Em received a first hand lesson on some of the effects of war on a location. We rented an amazing 2 story apartment right in a small harbor in the town of Klimno. The island is famous for its caves and a beach with healing ...

... remainder .... Took some pics of the valley and lowlands Waaaay down from us and headed down to the castle which we could see from our viewpoint in the tiny town of Drivenik. The castle although locked up as most of them seem to be, was in excellent shape despite being 800 years old give or take a century! Despite being a little windy up there still it was really nice... All alone walking around looking across the valley ...

... the 5-6 hour walk. After a wonderful day in the forest we continued our journey to the coastal city of Opatija and our next apartment. We arrived late and unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't go for a swim in the pool so we watched movies on sky and relaxed with pizza. A wonderful unexpected day as we thought we were just going to be in transit on our way to Venice. Bye for now - Grace
