... the only eating place that was open that early (5:30pm??!!) and they invited us to sit and wait for the torrential rain to stop. Then they decided that they could offer us an early meal of local food (including rabbit stew) while we were waiting and it was delicious ...

... is alive. One of the other neat things we see are caves dug out of the rock on the roadway leading up to the village. These caves are used to store stuff or are workspaces for mechanics, wood workers and even serve as a store for local wines. These people are very ingenious when it comes to their space utilization. The sun is starting to set and the old stone just glows.

We head back to our place and pack up for tomorrow. Our next destination is Rome again. ...

... a pine forest that is a national park. We rode through the northern portion of the same park when we came to Tuscany in 2010. There are bike/ped paths throughout the park and, because its parallels the sea, periodic trails leading to beaches. Our guides told us to take paths 3 or 4 because 1 was a nude beach. Well? We obeyed. Poop.Karen went right to the water and, although it was too cold to swim, she walked around in the surf collecting shells.

... a house in ruins captures my attention, so I pull over, drive up, and have a wander around. It has a lovely feeling about it, looks across the meadow of wildflowers to Monticiano, with a long drive that I can imagine being tree lined...and is walking distance to the famous tourist attraction of the San Galgano Abbey....I stand there and imagine this being a lovely intimate B&B and visualise a mini version of the luxury villa nearby!
