    ... hitch hike to the other side of the island within 1.5hours (bus only goes there twice a day), they gave me a place to stay, and best of all, I got to sleep out under the stars next to the gentle sounds of the ocean lapping on the sandy beach - essentially a private beach after 8pm until 10am when there are no customers! So, like the local Kalymnians, I also feel the draw of Kalymnos, and don't want to leave.....I'm even thinking of coming back after ...

    ... for non-Greek visitors. From here, you can take the bus down to the port area, but it's a surprisingly quick down hill walk (15mins max) back down, saving you €1.50 and it's a pleasant walk. Patmos is an easy island as nd to wander despite the rabbit warren streets! Apparently the winding streets were created to confuse pirates!

    There's actually 8 trails marked out on the island, and I accidentally do Trail #3 up to Kastelli. Along this ...

    ... is the Monastery, an immense fortress built originally as a fort to guard against pirate attacks but now occupied by orthodox monks. Inside it is decorated with Byzantine icons and frescoes and contains a Treasury with a 5-6th century illuminated sample of the book of Mark, 15th century religious icons and relics and 18th century vestements.
    We return to the boat for lunch and then have until 12.30am to ourselves.

    So much free time is such a treat! Liz and I grab ...

    ... that sold the traditional greek dessert called Loukoumades. They are mini doughnut balls which a sauce made of walnuts and honey (traditionally), but there were other flavours available such as chocolate and cinnamon.

    At 9pm we headed back to boat to attend the boats night club! A great (delayed) begging to out Contiki Cruise!

    ... arrived at the island of Patmos where those who wished were tendered ashore for a few hours. We opted to stay aboard and chill out at the bar with a few others.
