... day we made it to the quaint port town of Gytheio (also spelt Gythio and Gythion on road signs throughout). We dropped by the walled town of Monemvasia on the way. By the size of the bus parking this place is clearly a hotspot in summer although our timing meant most of the town was shut down. This didn’t distract from its Byzantine beauty sitting perched on a cliffface gingerly griping to Greece by a ...

Arriving into somewhere where one has never been before at the mad hours of the morning is rather scary. I just have no idea what to expect. Is it a dangerous port town or a holiday resort??? ... so successful even under some challenging circumstances.

We were tired when we got back but little did we know a little excitement was in our future. We had a small earthquake, even smaller than the last one I experienced in Greece. Hubby wasn't sure he actually felt it but we had someone else later confirm it had happened. I was on the bed and it's a bit movey so I guess it was easier to feel there. We just had snacks for dinner and than went to bed.

Sunday morning and much more to see. Corfu on the starboard side and Albania on the port. I stayed on Corfu about 20 years ago and it was sad to look across at Albania. At night you could not see any lights or moving vehicles. It must be very different now although I am not sure I would want to travel through it. Albanians that I have met have said that it is not safe. Then past north western Greece and into the port ...
