We move on to Ioaninna. Rained in night & overcast now... not inspiring. As we roll along, however, it starts to brighten up. Good roads and a reasonable journey. Camping turns out to be right on lake, only 1k from town. Sun beats down on us: perfect.
However, dark clouds loom on distant mountains, so we decide to carry macs when we set ...
... many old people wearing their traditional costumes, as the man I spotted sitting outside his shop and asked him to have a photo with me. I expected to see many more sitting in the square and discuss with friends but it seems that I was unlucky.
Not many old men wear their traditional costumes nowadays.

The construction of the nave itself uncovers at least 3 phases: the small three-cornered space with the dome (11th century) the cross-roofed hall from the 14th century, and finally the open narthex which is separated from the main church by a wooden door carved with representations ...

The small island is famous for it’s frog dishes, so I ordered one.
I remember the first time having it, it was nice so I did not hesitate to do so again. I even went into the kitchen and asked the women ...

While at the church there were two little boys who were in charge of the kiosk there. They were so cute and helpful, and one man got angry that these two little boys were in charge of the kiosk, but when the little ones started talking to him and answered every querry he had, he calmed down.
MONODENDRI
This beautiful Zagori village we visit todayy is about 41 km from the city of Ioannina.
It maintains intact the traditional stone-built architecture.
The Church of Agios Athanasios in the central square is of significan historical value.
We come here for lunch. From here are are going to visit the Gorge, but also I have a stroll in the village to take some photos and admire the architecture.
... showered (fresh soap and towels), feasted on salad, broiled pork, mashed potatoes and wine and watched the world swimming championships on T.V. Dimitris was a wealth of information about highway conditions ahead ("very difficult for bike"), border crossings to Albania ("only two in Greece. Very difficult for bike") and local sightseeing ("very beautiful basilica, but very difficult for bike"). The next morning we thanked Dimitris and his mother profusely, and set off for ...
Ioánnina, Greece rbruce... beautiful. From there I ran further up the mountains through Scala to Ravello, where Richard Wagner lived. Its a stunning town with a huge classical music festival every summer. From there I ran back down to Minori, which is just along the coast towards Salerno from Amalfi and took the bus back to Salerno. Now the next day was quite an adventure. I caught a train in the morning to Taranto, and then wanted to switch to Brindisi, but the trains there were all cancelled ...
