After the market we headed north up the coast where we found several closed campgrounds near the hill town of Scarlino. The town was scarily perched atop a steep hill, with a road that must have started out as a donkey. From Lerici to Cecina via Pisa in about 135k. The first half was basically stop and go on the seemingly endless beach road. The second half was way more urban than is ideal for a group of cyclists. We did bust through the crowds in Pisa to look at the tower. We also got a good look at the soft white underbelly of the port of Livorno.
