... imposing, fortified hilltop-villages and every now and then plunges us back almost to the seashore. Loads of tunnels to zoom through... Hilli not so keen on these! We book into the Bologna Novotel ('you can trust the carpets in a Novotel') and plan on finding somewhere nice to eat in the old city later. Tomorrow morning is to be a day of Bolognese exploration before we head on past Verona ready for our Alpine crossing to Traunstein on ...

Today Susan and I crossed 1,000 kilometers pedaled so far! Although we are still along the coast, the terrain has become more hilly and much more rural south of Pescara. The shore is dotted with little fishing villages and roadside stands where the fisherman sell their daily catch. We stopped in the town of San Salvo Marina, got a beach front hotel room, slept on the beach for a while and then enjoyed another great fish dinner. Thanks for coming ...
