Copan, Honduras buckwonderafter a night of drink my brains out, i woke up rolled a few and walk down into town. i went through the central plaza look to book a direct bus to La Ceiba.. after talking to the locals and travelers i found that you could get to La Ceiba via san pedro sula by taking a hedman alas bus which left at 5.15am and costed 475 Lempiras. so, after booking my bus trip i decided to walk to the ruins about 1 kilometer out of town. about half way there and after a dube i got picked up by a tuk tuk which...
Copan, Honduras buckwonderHi guys. This one will be short as the computer here keeps crashing. To bring you up to speed: Sat 25th July: Hike from Finca Ixobel near Poptun, then a swim, dinner and bed. Heavy tropical rain (luckily not during the hike, though). Sun 26th: Leave Finca Ixobel (sad). Rain still heavy. Drive to another Finca, this one near Rio Dulce (still in Guatemala). Have swim in a hot spring waterfall - utterly amazing - more later. Today (Mon) - early start, longish drive to Honduras border. Issues at...
Copan, Honduras daveandkateSo, instead of taking a ferry ride off the island, I said that we were going to fly off the island. It knocked off at least 5 hours off of our journey to our next destination. We flew from Roatan to San Pedro Sula, then took a bus from there to Copan Ruinas. The bus ride was packed because it was the busiest travel day of the year for Central Americans because of Easter. I am glad we were heading west because it seemed like a lot more people were trying to get to the beach than going to the i...

Copan, Honduras jen_83Since we last wrote, we have travelled through two more countries - Nicaragua and Honduras. As soon as we crossed over the land border into Nicaragua a marked difference was plainly visible in standard of living, it is so amazing how much lifestyle can change in the space of one mile when it is under the authority of a different government. Despite being visibly poorer than its neighbour, Nicaragua has lots of charm. Again it is a country which is very lush and teeming with wildlife. We decid...

Copan, Honduras sara-lindaWell, I was doing really good with the heat, but it got the better of me today. Last night, I went to bed in a room full of 7 other people. four bunk beds. it was 100 degrees in the bedroom. i took my ambien and went to bed. i woke up this morning, thinking that i had dreamed of an earthquake. nope, we had an earthquake last night. i was out of it too much to enjoy it, though. i guess it was pretty rough. our power went out. this morning i took a cab to the bus station and took a bus to copan...
Copan, Honduras sminihanFive of us went on a horseback ride to a Mayan village and into the rainforest. it was amazing. took around 4 hrs. Andrea, from Brazil, Patty, from Ireland, Christine, from Illinois, Josie, from North Dakota. We´re going to eat now and then go to the Mayan ruins. I think there might be a pool involved later, too. It should be nice after sweating all day.
Copan, Honduras sminihan... that San Pedro Sula was one of the most dangerous cities in one of the most dangerous countries in Central America. I felt for Luis and his family, hardworking, reliable people, who live in what is basically a **** pit, a transfer point for people going to the Bay Islands or the ruins at Copan. The Dos Molinos is located in the central district, and according to its website and Luis, is often used by ...
