Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.
The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

I was surprised by the arid landscape beyond the fertile valley of the interior, yet this is an island with more green space than others in the Cyclades. I suppose I associate islands (Vancouver Island, Ireland) with verdure but such is not the case in Greece.
