Coimbatore travel experience

... across in my life.

The next day, the driver Aravindan from Kannan Tours & Travels Pvt Ltd took us for a local trip of coimbatore. He took us to Isha Yoga centre where they had a dhyanalingam installed and also to a waterfall nearby Kovai Kutrallam. From there we visited Perur temple and Marudhamalai Murugan temple. Came back to Jenny's for a wonderful dinner and rest in the comfy room.

Will be starting off to ooty tomorrow

... intent, but nobody seemed to know what to do, and we just had to wait for him to move off the line in his own good time. This took about 40 minutes, during which time the elephant presented his face, then his backside, then his side, and finally his face again to our view, and most of the people had got out of the train for a better look, only to be chased back on by those in authority, who seemed more likely to ...

Families for Children

... that I divided my time between all the kids. Staff at FFC said that while there is a waiting list for Indian families wanting to adopt babies, a change attributed to the government promoting the idea of adoption, few kids with disabilities get adopted within India however, so these kids tend to stay with FFC long-term. One of the kids, a bright, intelligent 21 year old girl named Rachel, had expressed an interest in visiting the ...

Has anyone seen my elephant..?

... that I will also have a reflexology consultation. Otherwise all is the same as the previous two days except I will do an extra yoga class...funny in two days I can see the improvements in my capabilities so it's all up from here. I can't say I am missing anything from the outside world, I am even going to take a week to go into town so that I might break my shopping addiction!!! ... although I fear that with lots of new things to see I will buy stuff anyway! :o) The intermediate ...

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

... tells us to go to the back room of the restaurant, where they turn on the lights and ceiling fans for us. So we sit, the waiter brings us a menu and we order chicken masala, tomato soup, porotta (which is like buttery pita) and water and eat our meal in complete isolation. We settle up and get back in the car. We asked the driver why had to sit in the back, and he told us that the front was for locals, the back for foreigners. We were pretty horrified at this and couldn't quite figure it ...

... of the Rings - the one with all the hand-carved pillars the Dwarves made? Sam says, "There's a real eye-opener." Yup, that's exactly the thought that came to my mind when I saw this room. Except it's in vibrant colors. This room leads out to a greeting area where I suppose the Maharaja can greet his subjects. It's like a platform with another level for standing just below it. One can imagine the grand speeches that were made here, with the Indian people spilling out into ...

Greenery, Tea and a Refreshing Breeze

... event was a short visit to the tea museum. It features some historical exhibits from colonial Munnar and a small tea processing plant for demonstration. The museum tour guide tried to explain what all those nasty-looking machines do but his thick and fast-paced Indian accent was lost on us (I think I caught something about tea and fermentation though - maybe it's worth to check out). 14/02/05 4th Day - The Parting ...

... good chance that they had never seen a white person before, let alone someone with blue eyes. Speaking of Christian, it's hilarious to go around with him and meet people, because we are always stopped by people who want to know our names. The conversations generally go along these lines: Stranger: "Name?" Christian: "Christian. You?" Stranger: "Muslim," (or Hindu), "you name?" Christian: "Christian. Name Christian." Stranger. "Oh." More on my homestay family; I am more and more amazed by ...

Bankie Goes to Bollywood

... took us on a guided tour of the temple, although this time it was a tour unlike it had been at Perur. It was fascinating though, to see such ornate buildings and statues on such a large scale. After the tour was complete, and after the guide had talked us into buying a few overpriced ornaments, we set off back to Coimbatore. We'd driven four hours to get to Madurai, and spent little over an hour there. Now we were faced with a four hour drive back. The drive ...
