Day 48 - Transfer from Venice to Genoa to board MSC Splendida.
This morning we were up early thanks to our neighbours not sleeping. We went to buffet breakfast and struggled with the crowd to find a seat. We sat with 2 American couples from Pennsylvania. We had a wonderful breakfast chatting with them. We then headed to the meeting place to disembark. Toby had a coffee and I tried to Skype with Jye. When we disembarked we went to ...

... out since, we now had to take a train to this town. The lady tried giving us directions to the train station. We made it there (so we thought) and bought tickets, but it wouldn't let you pick the location. We had 3 sea days in this cruise when we are not in port. We love sea days as they are relaxing but there is plenty to do if you want.It is like being in 5 star resort. We were impressed by the service and entertainment with MSC. We departed Genoa at 5pm and it was great to have the feeling of being on the open seas ...

... you could leave your luggage at Monterosso (the last town on the cinque terre and closest to Genoa) alas my first lesson, check the actual destination website as opposed to someone's blog from 3 years ago. So after sorting out a ticket and getting a map I waited for the next train to get to La Spezia, the other end to leave my bag. So I walked around La Spezia station for what felt like 30 minutes looking for the place to leave my bag, ...

    ... 17.17.

Arrived at Genoa Piazza Principe (Stazione Principe) about 19.00. Although we hadn't booked a hotel in Genoa, I'd made some notes in Australia and luckily took them with me. One of the hotels I'd noted was the Nuova Nord only 50 metres from the station on Via Balbi - so we went to it. First of all, we were told it was fully booked. Then she says "Oh, here's a room - but the air-conditioning isn't working. We can do that at a reduced rate ...
