Street Parties - CARNIVAL 2009

... them that tourists leave here with a new respect and appreciation for Colombia since they know they have a bad international reputation from the drug cartels and trafficking. So this finishes Carnival 2009. Will I be back someday???? Does a bear **** in the woods??? Is a frog's ass water tight??? Of course!

Carnaval!

... Tom to one of the local Mexican restaurants to indulge in some of their speciality Jumbo Margaritas. I am now in posession of some comedy footage of Tom singing along to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" in a pitch only dogs could hear. Sunday was spent relaxing as I couldn't face another day in the hot sun and the more traditional parade was set to last about 10 hours. So instead I relaxed before going to Angie and Marci's Oscars Party to watch ...

Dia de la Imaculada & Vulcan Totumo

... will like it. That night Lili came over again, after I had some time to myself, with some yoga, and she fell asleep on me on the couch, while listening to music on my laptop. By the time we headed out, the Merengue concert at the stadium was over, but we decided to go to Barrio Abajo, to an event which Alfredo invited me to. I wished I had thought of bringing my video camera, but we were just going to go on a walk, and weren't really prepared for this really ...

Black Hen Protection Against Bad Of Eye

... I would have to give her some reason, so I told her about his eye operation. She advised me to buy a small bottle with "Honey de Angeles", "Honey from Angels", so he could put some drops into his eye every day, to prevent it getting worse. Since I had to mail the presents, and didn't want to risk this breaking, I asked her if she had anything else, which was easier to ship, for the same ailment. She didn't really come up with anything else, so I ...

Success!!! What is it?

... success for us - while we should truly define this ourselves. One achievement may be a big success to one person, and a trivial achievement to another. Should we devalue someone's achievement, just because it came, or would have come, easy to us? I would like to define my success in the following way (but this can, and most likely, will change in the future, as I grow and change as an individual):

Do I make my own ...

Rainy Day

So, the weather, is usually very constant, since we are near the equator. The average daily temperature is 32*C, and 25*C at night. Right now is rainy season, so it is more humid than usual, and it rains almost every day in the afternoon for a few hours. At the moment I am stuck in the hotel room, because we have a thunderstorm rolling through, with tons of rain. When it rains here, the streets become rivers, which move cars, and ...

Thoughts on "Fear"

... once again, something that has been imprinted in my mind by the society which raised me? Is there, such a thing as absolute truth, an absolute right and wrong? Do we need this? Ok, now I'm confused. Well, lets see... ok, I can't answer these questions, but, I believe that everything is really one. The universe, people, so assuming this is true, then I can also say that anything good that happens to anything, also means something ...

El Dia de Amor y Amistad

Yesterday was El Dia de Amor y Amistad, and Shirly, Gabriel, and Karen, planned a small party for the FCC staff at a bar called, La Licorerita. We all had amigos secretos, just like secret santa, but since I just arrived last week I wasn't going to get anything. Anyway, I wanted to give someone something, and so the girls had me pick out of a few papers, and I got Maria Bautista. When we exchanged our gifts, the staff surprised me with a ...

Arrival in Barranquilla, Colombia

... careful with my spending. The lady that cooks lunch at the office, refused to cook for me, she is too embarrassed of her cooking and thinks I will not like it, or that I have higher standards as a foreigner.  We will have to figure out how we can convince her that her food is fine. She cooks a lot of rice and beans, so it would be perfect for me. The grocery store has Soy Milk, but I will have to figure out some other ways to get hummus and pita, and I have to be very ...

The joys of bureaucracy

So the Colombian bureaucratic system is an absolute joy.No wonder people don't come here. It's not the guerrillas it's the minefield of red tape i tell you!I've spent the last few days navigating the system in order to get my "alien card". First I had to go to the dreaded DAS office to get the forms. Then ensued a tour of the whole city to get everything I needed...passport photos of me sweating profusely in the tropical heat, queuing at the bank to ...
