Best in Surabaya!

Hotel Majapahit is the best hotel I've stayed ever. It's value for money. They have excellent restaurants which serve local, Chinese and Indian food. Hotel is huge with lush green gardens and excellent spa. The staff were too good that they helped me throw a surprise birthday party for my friend upon request.

Our first few days in Indonesia

It can be a bit embarrassing here because everyone is staring at us, shaking our hands and even taking pictures of us! The people here on the island of Java(east) are so incredibly friendly and helpful! We stayed a few days in the second largest city called Surabaya which means shark/crocodile and then we met friends who took us up to mount Bromo, …

Visiting Mt. Bromo and seeing its stunning scenery was something I knew I wanted to do before I left Canada. But there were a few complicating factors. First, the weather and the limitations associated with the rainy season. What would I be able to see? Second was getting there. it was a few hours from the nearest city, Surabaya, a city that I wasn't really interested in visiting. Without taking part in an organized tour, like I did in northern Philippines for a week, this was a bit of ...

The Misleadingly Named Hotel Happy

... pay less than a fiver a night. I've taken the philosophy of a girl I used to live with, which is that a hotel should either be so cheap you just go there to sleep or so nice you don't want to leave. Mid-price hotels in Indonesia, in my experience, end up promising a lot and delivering little.

The problem with only wanting to go back to sleep is that Pangkalan Bunn is the quietest place ever. We went out to look for food at about 9p.m. and everything was shut. ...

Here I am....

... panic and embraced it. I should feel panic, for the first time I am truly putting myself out there and I could fall flat on my face...but the most beautiful part is...I don't care...because this journey is worth it. I am worth it...he is worth it... But the panic deepens into my soul. Do I deserve a love like this? Do I deserve this kind of relationship? I have hated myself for years in self ...

When in Java, do as the Javanese

... colleagues and I realized the mistake, it was too late to schedule them. So, okay, I'll take it! A day off! Turns out I really needed it because I'll be doing 5 fairs over the next 5 days, before returning home.

I spent most of the day gathering my thoughts, working out in the hotel gym, and pretending to be a mermaid in the luxurious pool of Le Meridien hotel. In the afternoon, I ventured out to a small antique market nearby and ended up smoking Indonesian ...
