Strasbourg, Alsace, France adrianjlFrance-Luxembourg 2009 Beginning I left Lansing Monday for Detroit early in the morning. The flight to Detroit was on time and I was again upgraded to first class (thanks Northwest) for the 20 minute flight. Upon arrival in Detroit I was making my way under the taxiway in the "tunnel of lights" when I saw my friend Tony Essenmacher and we stopped a chatted for a few minutes. Tony and I worked together at 5/3 Bank and he left shortly after I retired to a better life outside of banking. We caug...

I started the week in Geneva because of work. During my weekly Skype call with my parents, they mentioned my brother would be leaving for Paris the next morning. Nice of him to tell me! I called him but couldn't get a hold of him, so tried again in the morning. By the time I was awake on Monday, he was in bed for the night, but luckily he woke up and answered the phone. He told me he had a free day on Wednesday with no plans so this would be a good day for us to ...

France section of town, and we had a great Alsatian meal – me with a classic tarte flambee (Alsatian pizza-like dish) and the local brew, Kronenbourg.

We concluded our pleasant, one-night sojourn in Strasbourg by watching the Marseilles-Real Madrid game in the hotel, and we finally found out the correct pronunciation of the region’s famous wine – Gewürztraminer.
Strasbourg, Alsace, France leandroop... France and walked a winding path to the Cathedral. Unfortunately it was closed for some reason so we only got to admire the exterior. We stopped for lunch at a delicious Alsatian restaurant, Au Dauphin. Here we experience the delicious local specialty, tarte flambée. It is similar in appearance to a pizza. The crust is lighter and thinner, and there is no tomato sauce or cheese, but instead a delicious cream. For toppings, the ...

Strasbourg, Alsace, France jamishWe caught the wrong train and wound up in Gengenbach. While we were waiting for a train back we met a lady who told us the town had a beautiful old-town section. So we went discovering again. After a good look around we stopped at a pub while we were waiting for the next train and got talking to the owner. Turns out he'd been to Australia on holiday, so we had a good time talking to him until it was time to go.
Strasbourg, Alsace, France travellingjon... and cycling...amidst the splendor. So, starting with the basics and man's basic need - food and drink, or drink and food in this case - let's just say that in the Alsace your palate will be taken to places you didn't know existed! The wines you'll discover along the wine route are fantastic and the local grapes--Tokay Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer, to name a few--produce exceptional vintages. Wine connoisseurs will be definitely be happy and unlike ...
Strasbourg, France bruno.toutain... in French, German, Spanish, and English explained the clock and then there was a short demonstration. The clock is huge, very intricate, and very impressive. The cathedral itself was huge and beautiful. It was now lunch time. We walked to another square and found a nice sit-down restaurant. I had liver (probably of veal and very tender and flavorful) and roasted potatoes. Carol had Salad Niçoise and Denise had chicken ...
