Delectable Delhi

Back in Delhi. India makes me question all that I think I know, believe, accept and can tolerate. It's a simultaneous attack on all of my senses. If there's comfort in familiarity then it's no wonder I feel like a fish thrown into a sizzling pan. Nothing about this place is familiar. This land is like nothing I've ever experienced before. Despite my distant third world beginnings I've since adapted a first world sophistication - humby, of course. Things like clean air and water, personal spac...

Rishikesh - India's Haight-Ashbury

... cigarettes and just enjoyed the sweet view from his balcony. On our way out we bought a yellow glass bead bracelet to remember him by. On the second or third day we decided to break for the massive Trayambakeshwar Temple (you should look up a picture of it if you can-- it's like a wedding cake). This temple was very different from the Devi temple in Haridwar. You spiral up the tower clockwise, and every few feet there's a shrine for a different god. We only recognized a few ...

Yoga and music

... does not apply to motorcycles so they are constantly whizzing across the bridge, a big nuisance. Our accommodation at the Sant Seva Ashram was basic but for the price and location, no complaints. The room was huge and it had an equally big balcony overlooking the mountains, with the Ganges River running through it - very scenic. The ashram had yoga at 8:00am every morning and the ganga arti (river worship) ceremony performed at sunset ...

Going with the flow in Rishikesh

... and spirtual wannabe hoping to realign their chackras. Sure enough there was no shortage of ashrams spread throughout the town offering yoga classes, spiritual retreats and general new age fixes. So when in Rome...... A quick enquiry at my hotel and I was fixed up with my very own yoga class for the next three mornings. I wasn´t expecting any miracles, especialy as I had given it a go several years ago and found my body particularly resistant towards any attempt to flex it ...

Day one ( camp rapid action)

... we all decided to sit at the stream near by and enjoy the nature.   After about and hour there, we went on to check out the dinner arrangements. The evening cocktail party was a huge hit with  the group( the party was the at upper camp as parties are not allowed at the beach). I and Naveen were at the bar, and I had loads of fun making some very interesting cocktails with whatever we had. There were live performances by a small unknown ...

Endless Song

As I sit in the cosy recesses of my home I wonder at times how I made such a long and tough journey, that too mostly on foot. I remember how every cell of my body screamed in protest on steep slopes and yet I moved on, sometimes alone in terrible wilderness. The maze of stark naked, desolate grey hills and snow-mountains seemed to stare at us as if in amazement of our temerity at coming so close to them. Although each one of us was cocooned in his own physical ...
