... Italy. My past experience, though, from my 2003 travels in Italy is
that the food can be quite hit or miss. However, I used Venice, Florence, and
Rome, Italy’s biggest tourist draws as some of my bases during that trip, so
ended up eating a lot of mediocre, overpriced tourist food regardless of how
much I tried to get off the beaten path in those cities. It was quite a
different story in places like Ravenna and the hill towns of Umbria ...

I was once in what is now Slovenia back when it still
Yugoslavia. My first time in Europe was in 1985 after I graduated from high
school. My father was not interested in foreign travel but paid for a month
long trip for me, my mother, and my brother. That included a one of those three
week 1o country rushed tour bus trips many people take once in a lifetime to
say they’ve “done Europe” followed by ten days in Belgium with friends ...

Well, I went to a few coastal towns anyway, and they are quite nice, but I’d agree that Istria’s highlight is in its interior hills. Istria claims to be the Croatian Tuscany, and although that might be a bit of a stretch the hills and ...

    Piran - Slovenian Istria

Slovenia has only 16 miles of coastline, not much compared to Croatia's thousands of miles of coast when you include all of its islands and peninsulas. The short stretch is quite developed with an industrial port city (Koper), a swank resort (Portoroz), and a few other old towns. The one real attraction, though, is Piran, a beautiful old town on a peninsula similar to Porec and Rovinj in Croatian Istria but ...

... we have been, from the home made pasta with wild asparagus in the small village of Sovinjak to the farm dinner this evening that was 100% grown on site, even the brandy sipping desert beverage. We have walked and photographed several city walls on this trip. We have walked the great Chinese wall outside of Beijing, China. I wish our political candidates would travel to these ...
