    I am glad to report that we survived the night, despite the sultry heat and the scary snails. I had half expected to awake covered in a white sheet of snail, but only three had made it into Red. Mind you, they had made a concerted effort to ascend via the tyres.

    ... and hit the waterfront. Trieste is a cruise ship port and we can see a couple of ships in the distance. It looks as though we have timed this perfectly and they have all left for the evening because it really is not that crowded. We come across a piazza and David spots a Japanese restaurant...yes something other than pasta sounds awesome! We can't get a table until 8.30 so we pop next door for a drink beforehand.

    ... go get some, David went back to their apartment. Shouldn't be too hard to find somewhere to buy a litre of milk, surely! It took me an hour and a half to find a little supermarket, I pounded the streets for what seemed like 5km in the ridiculous heat - 34 degrees. Didn't help that Google Maps twice directed me to places that didn't exist. Pharmacies passed- at least 20. Clothes shops, 100 or more. Supermarkets? 1. I only found it ...
