After a good night's rest we woke to find the city shrouded in one of its legendary fogs. But the promise is for a fine day, with a summer high temp of 19. So much for missing the Gold Coast winter. ... was, until 1964, the longest suspension bridge main span in the world, at 4,200 feet. Today it ranks ninth, but is still considered one of the greatest feats on engineering of the twentieth century.

... and the boat stopped. The next question was "What time is your flight??" Turns out the motor had blown and we were stuck in the middle of the sea, rocking a bunch, in complete darkness. This took "scared" to a whole new level. About 45 rocky minutes later, we were rescued by a slightly bigger boat and made it to shore safely. Phew. A 20 min car ride, 4.5 hour flight and another 14 hour flight later- we made it to San Francisco by 8:30am (which is crazy because ...
