... travelers took camel rides while we wandered the area. We traveled by the Chott El Jerid, a huge, largely dry, salt lake where eerie figures of salt where built by folks along the roadway. Here we also saw a desert fox, the fennec, a tiny, pale yellow, large-eared creature which was really cute. We visited synagogues and mosques (few of which we were allowed in to visit), a Berber home built into the mountains, souks, medinas ...
Tunisia and Morocco, Bin ‘Arūs, Tunisia bumihillsIt's funny to haggle with the Tunisians in their markets, but Tunis disappointed me a little... it's dirty, have an strange smell like a mixture of spices and sweat... there just a few places to visit and they are so careless with their highlights... but after that we visited Sidi Busaid, I recommend this place instead of Tunis because of his streets and views
... a large window in the hallway that looked into my airshaft and I was there in my full glory for Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia to see right through the airshaft and into the shower. Had I paid a little closer attention when I looked out my window I would have seen that there indeed was another window sharing the airshaft that could potentially open up to provide voyeurs such as these old women a look right inside my window. Tunis, Tunisia atlpilot36... to load and unload about 50 people at each stop, some of whom were quite frail. The kicker was at dinner when we talked to some people who had hired a cab for the day (for about ½ of what we paid for the tour) and got to see everything we saw plus the souks (which were apparently fabulous) and the Bardo museum. That is absolutely the last group bus tour that I take if I can help it.
Tunis, Tunisia pammyk... Eisley I reckon. Nearly got attacked by two tusken raiders on the way over here. They were posing as shepherds but I recognise a sandperson when I see one. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about don't worry, you don't care. No longer struggling with an Arabic keyboard. Today it is a French keyboard.
Tataouine, Tunisia charlesaclark... arrived at the centre, where there is a large Mosque. As I had the wrong camera, we didn't enter. We kept walking until we were in the Government area. We were taking some photos, when all of these kids started up with, bonjoir, bonjourno, guten tag, hello. I gave them an aslaam, and kept walking, but they followed. Then they surrounded me, speaking in various languages. There were both boys and girls, getting closer, kind of like in Bangladesh ...
Tunis, Tunisia uncle_davros... and, unlike those in middle-eastern countries, non-muslims are restricted to an outer viewing platform. Not worth the 2 dinar to get in. Apart from the grand government buildings around the Place du Government, the rest of the walking tour around the medina didn't inspire as it was very difficult to see the older buildings from ...
