... different person to our host at Chablis. Invited to a 'degustation' I decided to mention at the outset that, as travellers, we bought only in small quantities. Undeterred, she kindly insisted that we sampled all five of her products. We left with a reasonably priced red and a half bottle of a special rose. The rose, proudly described as full of fruit was, in fact, rather too sweet to our taste but the red was delicious. 17.08.09 Sarlat-La--Caneda N4 53.747'E1 12.747'

... more sour. The trees are soo laden with this fruit that the branches are touching the ground and many are broken. We filled 4 large bags with damsons, and several with fallen apples for the pigs. While picking, I heard the terrible sound of a bomb siren piercing through the air. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! In my mind time rewound and I was living here during WWII running to get my family from the house and trying to ...

*you will notice that there are no photos in this entry. Not because I didn't think you would enjoy them, but because I didn't take any. I respect the animals and the process too much to defile it in that way.

... br> It's a beautiful piece of property in the country at almost the highest point in Normandy (the highest point is just across the road in the woods) and overlooks the town of Vire. Beside the house and barn there is the beginnings of an orchard and a pond stocked with trout. Lots of roads to walk and bike, and perhaps even an outing out with the hosts. Should be an interesting time!

... language barrier is just what I said: fumbling. Limited vocab or nouns and almost no way to string them together, I make feeble attempts. Seems that reading and listening are easier to understand, but speaking...I am looking forward to developing this over time though. Until then, this is about the extent of my French. Enjoy!

Day 7 - Olly, looking after a toddler on a trike

... the night was looming. Fearing for his life due to the number of massive water filled ditches and a firm knowledge of Olly's issues when riding a bike we decided to get the police to search. They started looking.

Olly decides to give us a phone call at half 11, at night, 6 hours after we last saw him. He decided to cyle 30 more miles to Le Mans. nob head. Interested to know his logic we arranged to meet up the following day. Unfortunately, we had know ...

Bagnoles for two days

... a customer was ready for their next dish etc., the chef would then call an instruction out and one of the junior chefs would reply simply with a 'Oui Chef’; then all would be silent again as the food was prepared and plated up for serving. The whole operation ran seamlessly. This was a lot of fun.

On our second day here we headed off to Domfront, a medieval village and fortress not far away. The old buildings were fascinating, as were the remains ...

... at how nice they are. They are part of the ‘Hotels of Silence’ group, which made me laugh as they obviously don’t know me. The concept is for plenty of rest and relaxation, which is just what my feet could do with right now as they are a bit sore from all the walking. Andre is off to do some laps in the pool and I guess I should go and relax now and enjoy the tranquillity. I have a book to finish, and then we have a dinner in the hotel.

... intrusive methods such as the McCarthy Hearings. The museum presented facts using artifacts and raw news footage, and it never editorialized its content, even during the last section - Approaches to Peace. The Memorial was so rich and clever with its ability to inspire thinking that we were rushed at the end of our visit, which lasted close to five hours, and we didn't give everything adequate time. We even missed a few things, such as the Nobel Peace Prize Gallery. But we did ...

... where the hostel was, but beware the map is a little confusing because it places you on the opposite side of the tracks than you really are, and so we thought we had to go back over the tracks southward, when we really wanted to go northward. But otherwise it was VERY easy to get to and it's right next to a camping site. While walking there we met with a Korean guy who was also looking for the hostel named, spelled phonetically, Hunghoe. And right as we started crossing the ...
