Two days in "MonteFuma"

Day three without Tracy.

Montezuma.

I ran into Paul and Anne as soon as I got to Montezuma (aka MonteFuma for all the pot smoke in the air). I had been to Montezuma ten years before and it hasn't changed much since then. It is still a little fishing village turned bohemian chill spot, but now its way more boring and gentrified for general tourism. All the chill vibe has been sucked out of it by the high priced hotels, but the hippies still flock there so it was a weird mix of r...

the stinky, sweaty, rocky trip to MONTEZUMA...

July 4th

O my goodness, so I and 2 girlfriends took the ferry and bus to Montezuma! Here's how it went...first off, caught the ferry across the Golfo de Nicoya (Gulf of Nicoya) to get to Montezuma. The ferry was an hour long and pretty boring to be honest. THEN, once I thought we were almost to Montezuma we got on this huge bus that took not only tourists but local Ticos (Costa Ricans) to Montezuma and the various towns along the way. Let me tell you, I was soooo grossed out when I got...

Howler Monkeys in the night

After an early bus ride (6am) we arrived in Puntarenas to catch a ferry. It was very hot in the sun and we had to wait in line to get our ticket and then wait in line to get on the ferry... we were a sweaty bunch! When the ferry arrived we found a table that was in the shade and waited for the ferry to start moving. Then the Karaoke started. Yikes! We were right in the middle of all the commotion and were worried we'd lose our hearing it was so loud! There was a little boy who did the first s...

Monkeys, a waterfall and a...skunk?

... the waterfall that's just outside of town. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the trail head- 45 minutes of walking pretty much straight uphill. After we hit the trail, it was about another 20 minutes to the waterfall. It wasn't a difficult hike, per say, but it was challenging in the hot, hot sun...and I definitely lost about a gallon of water weight on the way up, but it was all worth it. The waterfalls were beautiful and COOL! The guys did ...

San Isidro-- Driving the Moutain of Death

... figured it was a fuel issue. Now, a few days later, we relize the problem was not Wesley but bad fuel. White smoke, which we were blowing, is a sign of too much water in the fuel. Of course we had to get the bad Diesel right before going over the Moutain of Death! Luckily Wesley is running fine now.

That night we parked in the middle of a pineapple field own buy yours truly, Del Monte. I never thought we would be enjoying Del Monte for it's beautiful sunset's!

Montezuma - beach, waterfalls and a few benders!

... and enjoying the vista.
Once the sunset I headed back to the hostel for the cheap **** casado meal - fish, rice, beans and cabbage, played cards with this yankee dude and two dutch chicks before heading off to bed pretty early. Also found out the national park would be closed tomorrow as its not open on Mondays! So might have to flake out on the beach or study some spanish instead and hit up the park Tuesday.
(Photos to come later in the day, my camera is on charge!)

Pura Vida

I am in Playa Uvita. At Cascade Verde (the name of the organic farm) Wow...this place is a dream. It is missing two things that I love though, wireless and fans....but, everything else about this place makes up for it! We are staying for free in the volunteer house (which is not as luxurious as the rest...but we get to use the amenities of the main house) We are closer to the beach here (only a 40 minute walk, rather than almost an hour bus ...

Hiking Chirripó

... of about 1400 m. We stayed the first night in a hotel called Roca Dura (yes, that is Hard Rock) then got up early to hike out. This first day was 15 km straight up to Base Crestones, where we would sleep before getting up at three to hike the last 5 km to the summit in time for sunrise. It was definitely tough going. The path was well marked, but it was very steep and muddy. We stopped for water and a rest approximately every two km, but it was still so ...
