My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lotschberg in late September for 3 nights. What a fabulous inn! We were in room 41, which is in the attic. The room was extremely clean. The bathroom was immaculate. The view from the room was breathtaking. This room is especially nice for light sleepers. We felt removed from the rest of the house and were both able to get some of the best sleep in a long time. A note of caution, those that have trouble with stairs should stay on a lower floor. The lift only goes up to the third floor. Otherwise, this was an ideal room.
The room rate (we paid 155 CHf) includes breakfast. Breakfast included croissants, fresh bread, jam, cheese, meats, tea, and coffee. The living room is on the first floor, where you can access the Internet (for a fee) and have a cup of tea or coffee. The hotel also had a coin-operated washer and dryer, which is convenient for backpackers.
Interlaken is a nice town but for those that want to see more of the Alps, we recommend a visit to Gimmelwald (not to be confused with Grindelwald). To get to Gimmelwald, you must take the train to Lauterbrunnen. From Lauterbrunnen, you hop on a bus to the cable car. The Gimmelwald Pension is a good place for lunch if you decide not to pack a picnic. The fondue is extremely delicious!

We just got back from a long European trip and had a one night stop-over in Interlaken. After traveling in Italy for a week and not exactly meeting some of the most helpful people, it was absolutely refreshing to meet the young lady that checked us in to the Lotschberg (unfortunately her name escapes me). She was so welcoming and so helpful and provided a great kickstart to our brief stay in Interlaken. The hotel was fabulous. We had an attic room that had a perfect view of Jungfrau out the window. The bed was comfy and the breakfast was great. Again this young lady took fantastic care of us at breakfast. If you have not visited Interlaken, you simply must. I have been to a lot of places, but I must say this is the single most beautiful place I have ever been. The Lotschberg is like a minute walk from the west train station. And since Interlaken isn't that big, you can walk everywhere in town. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the area. I know I would like to make it back someday. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to meet Fritz during our brief stay, but hopefully next time. One of the best stops on our whole trip.

We stayed here for 3 nights in September 2005. This hotel was absolutely fantastic. We stayed in one of the attic rooms and had the honeymoon packaged added on.
The room was great. The view superb and bed comfortable. There was a TV with cable stations and a nice bright bathroom.
The hotel is located near the West train station and is in a nice quiet area. Interlaken is not huge so you can walk to everywhere you want to go.
The staff were fantastic. We booked the extra honeymoon package which provided champagne and decorations. We arrived a little early and the room was not ready so the girl at the front desk wrote down on a piece of paper if I wanted the champagne ready yet, so the surprise was kept. All the men reading this website, you will get lots of points from your wife/girlfriend with this package.
Breakfast was continental and had some of the nice bread I have ever eaten.
I would definately stay here again if we come back.
Great location, Hospitable staff

My wife, 10 month old daugher and I spent two nights at the Lotschberg. We arrived to be greeted by a friendly young lady who spoke perfect english. Our room was a large, corner unit (#18) with a wonderful view of the mountains. The room was sparkling clean and a nice crib had been prepared for our daughter.
You will want to meet Fritz...Fritz is an extreme sports guy who also speaks fluent english. He was most helpful to plan our daily activities.
I would certainly stay again...
Cozy and wonderful

Very friendly hosts. Sumptuous breakfast menu. Rooms are very cozy, clean and comfortable. The hosts are very knowledgeable of the area and will spend time with you to suggest places to visit and things to do. We spent our honeymoon there and it was just wonderful. The only thing I would recommend against is the honeymoon decoration in the room for $40 a night. It's just waste of money. The rose flowers they arrange are artificial.
Really friendly hotel at a good price

The hotel is located 2 mins walk from train station.
We had a small double room which had more than enough space. The view from the window was stunning.
The hotel was very clean and tidy.
Breakfast was basic swiss breakfast, but very fresh and tasty.
The owner was very helpful regarding places to visit and places to visit, as were the other staff.
There was a small room to make tea/coffee with a tv.
No complaints whatsoever.
Great Location, Decent Value, Fantastic Owner!

My extended family stayed at the Hotel Lotschberg for one night last week, and we were very pleased - we would have been happy to stay for more.
There were 9 of us: my husband and me (young marrieds), my sister and her friend, my grandma, my parents, and my parents' friends. My parents and their friends each had an "attic doubleroom" in the Hotel Lotschberg. These rooms were immaculately clean, with cute sloped ceilings and comfortable beds. The only downside to these rooms was that the elevator doesn't go up to the 5th floor where the rooms are, so we had to carry luggage up an extra flight of stairs - a small inconvenience for cute (if a little plain) rooms. We felt like these rooms were a decent value, but no steal.
The rest of us shared the 4-5 person apartment in the adjoining Susi's B&B. There were two rooms, one with bunk beds and a separate twin bed, a half-bath and a nice window. The other room was the "main" room with a European king-sized bed, a dining table, and the kitchenette (and another window). The full bath was off this room. The apartment was also very clean, although the furnishings and bathroom fixtures weren't as updated as the hotel rooms. My only gripe with the apartment, which was otherwise perfect for our needs, was that the grout in the shower was pretty badly stained with mildew. Some Tilex or even regrouting the shower would make a BIG difference. It was surprising since everything else looked so spotless!
Since breakfast wasn't included with the apartment (although it was with the hotel rooms) the five of us walked across the street to a Migros cafeteria-style eatery and had breakfast there.
By FAR, the highlight of our hotel stay was Fritz, the owner of the Hotel Lotschberg. He was very friendly and welcoming, almost talking our heads off with his WONDERFUL suggestions and helpful tips. When we were ready to head out to dinner, he made some recommendations, and called ahead to the restaurant of our choice (the Goldener Anker) and reserved a table for our army. :) Dinner was absolutely as good as he said it would be - one of the best meals we had on our trip - and the service was fantastic as well. We could not have been more pleased with Fritz's recommendation!
The next morning, we were allowed to leave our bags in the breakfast room while we prepared to go Paragliding. I later learned that Fritz is a pilot himself and if we hadn't had so many people who wanted to go at once, I would have been happy to paraglide with him. While we were waiting for the fog to lift from the takeoff site, Fritz broke out an enormous horn whose name I'm forgotten, and we took turns blowing it (with more and less success!) - the horn is supposed to make the weather turn nice! Sure enough, it worked.
Overall, we were very pleased with the Hotel Lotschberg and would happily recommend it to others.

This hotel was fantastic and very reasonably priced (with free parking as well). We had a large immaculate room with a balcony which overlooked the mountains. The breakfast was excellent, and included various cheeses, cereals, fresh breads, etc. (I think the milk, cheese and butter comes from the family cow, "Heidi"). The staff was extremely helpful in planning several adventurous day trips, including hiking (the Niederhorn Hike was our favorite), and mountain biking (you can rent bikes from the hotel for a nominal fee). Paragliding with Fritz (one of the hotel's owners) was unbelievable, and you'll save money flying with him (and longer) than with a company. The staff also recommended good places for dinner. There is no other hotel in Interlaken that we would consider after staying here.
Great location

3 minute walk from Interlaken West Train Station - location is perfect.
Room was smaller, but nice. Staff is perfect since this is a family owned/run hotel. Consider paragliding with Fritz, the owner. Washer and dryer, internet is available for a reasonable cost.
Nice Quiet Place

The Lotschberg, a small family run hotel, a short walk from the train station and Migros super market, was an excellent place to position ourselves for the trip to the Jungfrau. We were there in mid March, off season and with a war brewing. So the hotel was nearly empty. The price was right. The room cheery & lots of hot water and ice available. I would reccommend it for people not wanting to spend more than 100 Euros on a very decent place to sleep.Richard E. Hayes
