... in a different kind of place.

We had at least 6 hours to kill before our night train left for Belgrade so we decided to wander around. While we were walking to the downtown area, I kept thinking to myself, "How is this country a part of the EU?" It was really dirty, with litter everywhere. The shops and stores seemed kind of “ghetto.” We eventually found somewhere to eat (after what seemed like a really long ...
Bar, Serbia and Montenegro mdaaUlcinj is a very odd city. In the medieval years it was a haven for pirates who would capture passing ships in the Adriatic. They would steal the ships and cargo and ransom off the captives and all those that wouldn't pay up, they would sell into slavery. There still remain the prisoners cells within the fortress and the slave market in the center of town.

With today's tourisms seeking new ways to distinguish ...
Ulcinj, Serbia and Montenegro mylifesjourney... escaped, €80 richer than the Swiss couple in front of us. We had to buy car insurance, which we knew was coming, but didn't expect to cost €138! For three hours in the country! Not having enough Euros and fearing that Albania would be just as bad, we backtracked to Dubrovnik to investigate ferries to Greece. But, they all go via Italy and they all cost a bomb, so 7 hours later and no ...
Shkodër, Shkodër, Albania davechrisdamo... of watersports, excursions, restaurants/bars and if you ever visit coastal Montenegro we would recommend using Budva as a base for exploration (and the salted pancakes at Garden Caffe (sic) as a base for sustenance). 5km along the beach to the south lies the resort of Sveti Stefan - an old fishing island it was appropriated by the Yugoslav government in the 1960s and turned into an exclusive resort. All the buildings ...
Bar, Montenegro jiewu... of the bridge from every possible angle. In fact I took so many that my "Montenegro" folder on the computer looks like a bridge-fetishists porn collection (do people get off on bridges?, possibly). After that thrilling foray into bridges I decided I was hungry. This resulted in me buying a godless looking type of sausage in a bap from a little café just down the street from the infamous bridge. It was, despite first ...
Podgorica, Montenegro englishanddrunk... across the Adriatic coast to Italy. Today, I could barely make out the outline of my companions as we trudged along. Freezing but the flurry of snow coming down was surprising and nice (esp when we were back inside a mountaintop restaurant and feeling of our toes returned). We then went back into Cetinje town and visited the famous monastery. After making sure that we ...
Cetinje, Serbia and Montenegro lilyc... soil in Albania. I wasn't the only one surprised that they were serious. Our tour guide, who had previously dismissed their plans scrambled to get us prepared for our trip. On the eve of our sojourn, our tour guide pulled us aside to brief us on what we were getting ourselves into. He wanted to make sure we knew as much as we could about the conditions, customs, and potential dangerous situations. He didn't seem very comfortable with the ...
Shkoder, Albania pre10der89... many private accommodations available. In town the streets were bustling with tons of tourists having descended upon the town. I walked back to the Internet place and enjoyed the busy evening scene on the Promenade. The Internet cafe actually had 10 of its terminals outside so I could get a breeze, hear the sea, and enjoy the atmosphere. I was trying to figure out where to go after Ulcinj. There were plenty of very pink people walking around. Afterwards I went ...
Ulcinj, Serbia and Montenegro rnriggins... we could easily have spent all day exploring, but wanting to make the 2pm bus to Kotor we began making our way back down the hill on foot just before midday. It was a pretty special place, with numerous ruins intermingled with small houses and churches along the way. The view over the modern city of Bar about a kilometre from the coast was quite impressive, and I was looking forward to the two hour journey along it to Kotor, the walled city overlooking Southern Europe's deepest fjord.
Bar, Montenegro will... day to the bus station and the information guy blew up again and there was a new lady at the ticket window, who coldly said no to albania again. The montenegrons hate the albanians. And it is near impossible to get to Albanania from Montenegro. As well as this the people who ran the apartment were giving me evils as well although once the brits left i got some smiles. I dont know. But Albania is a whole different story... Probably even longer!! Kotor was beautiful... see pics.
