... Very busy here, gorgeous scenery and the sand is like little tiny balls. Loads of crab holes too. Lots of locals swimming in the beach and picnicking.......in the sand under the trees. We then head off to Gerupuk surfing village. The roads are very bad, very potty. We reach the village and there are loads and loads of home stays, I am sure most are very basic. All for surfers. We stop and check out the little boats and the seaweed farms. This ...

... I went back to bed upset that I didn’t have the confidence to head up. More than half the group decided not to head up after the afternoons dramas, it must have gotten to us all. Id seen stunning photos of the sunrises over the crater (blood red skies) but I had to suck it up and accept my choice. A couple of lonely beach cafés and a diving centre stood with a few locals with a horse cart to transport tourists to their bungalows. We did not ...

... climb 4am. By 6am we were at the top and freezing waiting for the sunrise. We had an overpriced disgusting hot chocolate to warm up whilst waiting for the sun to rise. It must have done but we didn't see it through the cloud! After a brekkie of hard boiled eggs and a banana sandwich, we began the descent, stopping to view some monkeys and pockets of steam coming from the volcano. Once near the bottom the clouds parted to give us a great view of the lake before we got ...

      Off to Senaru we go

A travel blog entry by niomioconnor on May 29, 2014

After a nice sleep in the big comfy bed in our amazing hotel we had a relaxed breakfast and then spent the morning chilling by the pool. We had to check out of our room by twelve so I had to pack my things and then we left our bags in the hotel lobby while we tried to figure out how we could get to Senaru, our next stop. A guy from the hotel promised me loads of good deals as apparently he has many 'diver' friends but it turned out that noone was available and the cheapest offer ...
